How fast can I go in 4WD?

When the 3rd gen 4Runner was making it's debut, Toyota stated that it was governed to 106 mph. Aftermarket add-ons that hurt aerodynamics like roof racks, lifts, and/or heavier oversized tires will reduce the chance of reaching the governor.

So I'd say something less than 106 mph.

I have hit the governor at 105 or so. It had plenty of gusto to go. Even with the roof basket, bug shield, sunroof vent and snorkel.

I would hope so. The 2UZ-FE has significantly more power than the 5VZ-FE.

Does the 5 speed have a speed governor??
I have had it at approximately 95 but living in the bay area and commuting to SF there really are not many appropriate places to be finding out if there is a governor.
Also does the safe* to go as fast as I want in 4wd also apply to those of us who have only 4wd (center locked) and not Awd?

Yes the 5 speed does, 106 or 108. Anyone know how to shut it off?

Most if not all manufacturers put there limit in the top gear. Like in our case its not triggered until you get into 5th gear... So say staying in 4th gear does not activate the limiter, but I think the truck runs out of juice sooner in 4th gear. Other cars like BMWs or more performance oriented vehicle like corvettes, mustangs, ect you just stay in that next lower gear and you can exceed the "limited" speed.

It cuts out in 4th, im not at redline, i dont bother trying to top out in overdrive, it takes too long.

Odd... Well I guess Toyota does not fallow convention in this regard. But most other vehicles are this way. I know BMWs and Audis for sure are, as I have done it with them, and a corvette. Of course this was all done on a race track and not public roads, as I'd never break traffic laws...

It would take me an hour to get from 0 to 106... If I ever get chased by the cops I'm heading straight to the side of a mountain, not the interstate.
