How hard is it to install the auto-dimming mirror in an 05 Runner?

I was thinking of upgrading my mirror to the auto dimming mirror and I have found a site that has one for a little over $200. It doesn't show the directions so i was wondering how hard is it to install this on an 05 SE Runner? Is the wiring already in the ceiling or do I need to run the wiring to the fuse box myself? I have no idea how to do this so if this is the case is this difficult? Thanks all.

The wiring is not in the roof. You need to run the wiring down the A pillar to the left drivers set foot well area. Remove the panel there and tap into the needed wiring. I used the electrical schematics to find the wiring and it worked out great. All I remember is the very lowest connector (about six pins) to the floor next the the foot rest has all the needed wiring. I remember it took about 1.5 hours for the whole job.

It's cake... takes less than 5mins to run the wire down the pillar and tuck it behind an accessory fuse. (you can use the bolt at the bottom of the dash as ground) ... alternately you could probably tap into the reading lamps too.

5 minutes to run the wires OK but it takes quite a bit longer before you are ready to run the wires and then you have to put everthing back together. I though of the reading lamps but that will not work because they are always hot and you don't want the mirror on all the time. When you remove the panels be very careful not the scatch them as they get scatched quite easily.

I just talked to a friend of mine and glad I did. He has a used one that he is going to sell to me for $50 but it doens't have any of the wiring that is needed to run down to the fuse box. This is from a 05 4Runner. I am assuming that I can get this anywhere? Like an Autozone or PepBoys? Anyone have any pics as I really want to add this but don't know much about the wiring and fuse thing. Anyone have any pics or anything? Thanks all for your help.

We have a search function that is very helpful as many topics have been discussed in great detail. Those are the Toyota instructions, but in other threads members have discussed it in greater detail.

If it's a Gentex mirror, (which I think it is) you might try contacting this distributor to see about a replacement wiring harness kit. (it just plugs into the mirror) Gentex won't deal directly w/ the public and defers everything to it's resellers.

Thanks for the info Sharp4runr but if I don't know the brand of the mirror how was I supposed to search for it? I thought it was Toyota brand mirror but it appears that it isn't. Thanks all for the info. I will try contacting the manufacturer. Thanks again guys.
