How long is the 4.7L supposed to last?

The 4.7 l v8 motors are just as reliable as the 3.4 l v6
They are million mile motors if they are taken care of I have a 3 4l with 921 thousand miles and still going replacing the radiator fan clutch the freeze plugs water pump and thermostat this week with oem Toyota Parts on a 2000 year model

No...not "almost any car". Only quality manufacturers are capable of such a feat. I have 2 brand new Ford vehicles that were designed to fail exactly after the warranty expires. Even Ford themselves admit that the new ecoboost engines cannot last over 135k by design. I currently have an Ecoboost Escape ( it's a free car, I would never buy an American car of any type ) which was manufactured at the factory with a bad headgasket, bad transmisstion, bad door latches, bad liftgate, bad power windows, bad seatbelts, bad airbags, bad tires, bad lug nuts, bad waterpump, bad air conditioner, bad seats, bad alternator and bad battery... Keep in mind it is a NEW CAR.
There are only a few manufacturers worldwide who are able to make something that is not a complete pile of garbage. Toyota happens to be one of them.

+1 on the previous post. I have found that older vehicles last a lot longer on average. The old Chevy LS motors don’t quit. The 12 valve Cummins diesels lasted forever. But it’s all about the money now. If cars don’t break, the manufacturers won’t sell new ones and won’t be able to fix broken ones. Also, they are getting increasingly harder to work on for the same reason. Older cars GENERALLY are better in my opinion than what’s coming out today.

I just learned that the Ford Explorer’s motor was designed with the water pump inside the engine. What water pump doesnt fail by 100k. Get a nice water leak in the engine and kaboom. I used to think Ford was the only american vehicle worth buying. I dont think that anymore. All our cars are toyota or lexus.
I have about 320,000 on my 2003 V8 Limited. Original owner, survived 2 teenage drivers with 2 more to go, light hobby farming, daily driver. It didn't get much use this year due to the pandemic.
The transfer case/actuator seized on me about 2 years ago. We found a good used one and replaced it. I had the entire back end redone a few years ago and right now I need to have the front control arms and CV stuff done. Probably next month. I'm also going to order new Katzkin replacement covers for the seats and a new carpet from one of these online dealers.
My plan is to keep this car for as long as possible. I love it and I can't imagine driving anything else.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy an F150 with the 5.0 Coyote motor.
As far as my 4runner. I have 177k on it now. Took it up to the mountains of western MD and the thing is a beast. Completely stock on nearly worn out highway tires and and managed to get through some nasty stuff. I did however, destroy my drivers side running board. But O well, now I have a reason to buy rock sliders.

You believing "me" is irrelevant. Ford published a worldwide recall for all ecoboost engine designs stating that they would fail at 135K 2 years ago due to poor coolant o-rings which would cause all the coolant to boil out of the engine and overheat the rotating assembly.
Also, my fleet ecoboost escape happens to be at Ford right now for that exact problem.
All Ford engines are garbage. Deal with it.
