How long to replace brake lines?

I was just wondering how long it takes to do the brake lines on a 3rd generation 4runner.
To replace the entire brake line system, the short flex lines and the long front to back coil lines that are usually steel.

I was told by a mechanic it take 10 hours to do the job if your using the non flexible steel lines. Gas tank needs to be removed ect...

How long does it take to do with the more flexible poly coated or nichol-copper lines?

Are you going to be forming the lines as you go?, or are just installing pre-made lines? The actual time it would take would vary greatly, depending on your experience, available tools, etc.

A mechanic might be quoting "book time", which is what he would charge to do the job. A skilled Mechanic with all the proper tools, lift, and just installing stock pre-made lines, could probably do it in a couple hours, including bleeding the system.

I'm guessing that since you're asking, you have no experience with this type of work. So if you do this yourself, I'd plan on the job taking much longer than you think.

Will be forming the lines with flexible Nichol-copper lines. A skilled mechanic will be doing the work (20 yrs with Toyota) He has a lift and all the tools, after hrs in the shop.
Also using Stop-Tech lines going to hubs.
So you think 3 hrs including bleeding.
Does the gas tank need to come off if using flexible lines?

3 hours? Doubt it, it's a good full day of work especially if you're reforming the lines, also taking into account any problems that may arise bending and flaring.

Couldn't agree more. When I swapped my axles, I left most of the brake lines along the inside of the frame rail in place. I redid the lines from the frame down to the rear axle and only rerouted the lines from the mc down to the front axle to clear the steering shaft. Just that plus tube work for my proportioning valve for the rear discs and I was 3 hours into it.
