How long to wait after starting engine in cold weather?

Just kidding.Just a thought, but if your using synthetic oil a few seconds of idle and your good to go. Even at -30F. I think the most important thing you can do to promote a longer engine life is to gently drive it till the engine completely warms up. After the initial high idle drops I go.

I do know that both BMW and Mercedes recommend that you do NOT wait before driving off. But, being anal retentive and too scared to try new things, i wait 15-30 seconds.
Also, i have heard that excessive idling (looonnnggg idling, not just 1-2 minutes) does more harm to the transmission. Anyone else heard this??

First off, I don't feel like I did anything wrong by asking the guy for references about a phrase none of us have heard of??
When he got all mad that I "called him out" I was obviously going to defend my stance and that I am qualfied to talk about this issue. As some of you may know, my defenses are a reflection of my personality; I'm a smartass, especially when you get on my nerves by making ignorant remarks. And it would be the same way if we were talking face to face...
Because of my comment there is one less person spouting off about crap they don't actually know about or something that doesn't acutally exist (that is of course unless I'm proven wrong by a legitimate reference).
