How long will JB weld hold

Not that bad.. Just lost the inner frame rail. Clean that really good. Cut that out the bad stuff. Get a 1/8 plate that fits inside and weld it back in..



I clean the frame out and rust converters on it then coat the inside with some major rust prevention fluid.

thanks i’ll check out your build. I have a 5” x 8’ 11 gauge plate on order to fix some spots with. i’m assuming gas tank side will be in the same condition.

here’s what it looked like before I poked around with the hammer, kinda surprised me how much fell off.

My Dad and I used JB Weld on his stripped carburetor fuel inlet line fitting years ago. Our biggest concern was that the fuel may effect it over time, but it never did. It lasted that way for many years and was still sealing when the car was sold years later. I’m sure there would have been other ways to seal it at the time, but we couldn’t think of any, other than replacing the carburetor.

Yes that is typical as the inner rail is about a little less then half the thinkness of C section of the frame. Actually your driver side arch maybe worse it just depends.

JB Weld under good conditions can last an extremely long time.

However on a 3rd member housing that heats up and cools down plus the environmental conditions of hot in summer and really cold in winter makes the steel expand and contract enough that it will crack no matter what you do.. Its just how it is.

I could not look away from your undercarriage. It is in such stark contrast to mine. Silly I know, but I'd be afraid to drive that thing.....way to spoiled by rust free cars out here.

My diff is all shiny cuz I changed the gear oil a couple weeks ago, otherwise it'd be way dirtier.

We know what rust free things look like. The rust free folks see surface rust and freak out their rigs are going to fall apart. Frame porn gets old its just one of the things we have to deal with in this environment.

One of the teams on the Alcan 5000 this year had a serpentine belt tensioner give out, the bushing was shot. Late Saturday afternoon in Dawson City so no place to get a replacement and we were leaving at o-dark thirty the next AM. They formed a new bushing out of JB Weld and let it cure overnight. At -11f that was the warmest temperature we saw for the next week. The JB Weld bushing lasted the rest of the trip, up and back down the Dempster Hwy, over to Fairbanks, and then down to Anchorage with no problems. Saw temps as low as -37f, great stuff.

Weeks to months. Seen JB Weld do amazing things when not under too much stress or heat.

Same. My brother dropped my Brand New only been to the track once YZ125 in the back of my truck when he was helping me load up. It poked a tiny pinhole in the upper tank of the radiator. I put JB weld on it at the house, drove to the track, and rode all day. I rode that bike for 4 years with 0 issues.

It should hold just fine in your climate, but the only concerning part is the rest of the rust on your diff. You might want to take a wire brush or wheel and clean that rust off, then apply some rust resistant treatment.
