How many miles is too many?

Looking at a 2000 SR5 4WD with 242k miles. It's in very good condition, original owner, however it will need some preventive maintenance (e.g. new radiator, transmission flush, maybe new lower ball joints). Owner said lifters have been replaced, but I'm afraid I don't know what that means. Undercarriage looks good, given its age. Owner asking $6k, which is way too high IMHO. I'm thinking $3000-3500 is more than fair. Question is - is it worth pulling the trigger on a T4R with that high mileage or would you pass?

How many miles is too many in buying a 3rd gen T4R?

It's really always the same answer with these questions. Maintenance history and checking for rust on the frame are the only ways to have an educated guess at its condition and projected longevity.

Beyond that you'll get a bunch of opinions on how many miles do other members limit their purchases to. Although, that might be what you're asking and I missed the question altogether

I also don't know what the market is like in Virginia, but that 4Runner would probably sell for more than 3500 around here(Southern California)

6k is definitely a little much for a stock Runner with that mileage, I'm assuming your in Virginia from the other comments? If that's the case, definitely shop around. Many 3rd gens for 3-3500 in the Richmond area

Fairly clean 99 with 217k for 2900$

You'll always find a better deal. My thinking is that if you find one you like and it's in good shape,get it. $3000 or $6000, either price is still a great deal considering how long lasting these trucks are. I paid $6000 for mine with 228k on it. I could've payed less, but still got a lot of value out of my purchase.
