The runner is an excellent urban vehicle - the 911 Porsche is amongst the worst.

totally... i find myself not enjoying driving the 911 when there's a passenger even..... the ideal is driving it when you're out there to just enjoy a drive v. doing any errands, other activities.

-vandalism
-scraping (esp mine with aero and lowering)
-crazy attn from public

4runner just kills the p-car in the ability to run errands with peace of mind.

I gotta agree, though it's not often you see the words 'Porsche' and 'worst' in any sentence. My 4Runner is the first automatic tranny vehicle I've ever owned. It's easy to drive in stop and go traffic and on multiple stop lights roads.
The 911 wants the open road, as serpentine as possible, and the race track that has right as well as left turns.

I try to go wheeling every weekend.. I did not buy a 4x4 to cruise the mall lol. that would be like buying a Vette, and ONLY driving the speed limit. IMHO buying something and not using it is a huge waiste of money, why buy a 4x4 and not wheel it. but thats me and for those that are scared, that they might break something, your driving a Toyota, not a ford, lol these yotas will go more places then you can imagine.

Right on man! Had my truck fording through a river almost headlight deep not more than two months of owning it. Love it for what it is. Yeah some people say why would you do that to a $30K+ truck? I say why not! I'm not made of money, nor do I have a lot, but I like to enjoy myself and my things for what they are. Theres some sort of serenity getting out in the woods and just enjoying the natural elements, not just mallcrawlin'.

IMHO owning a T4R and a Porsche C4S is about the ultimate in vehicle experience. The T4R is about 80 percent - it is such a great all arounder.

Kind of hard to be a poser in Montana. If the wife would allow i'd have a lift and ARB front and rear. Have to wait for birthdays and Christmas. There's a trail that heads to a fire post at the top of a mountain...take family from out of town up there. Can see Yellowstone on a clear day. Wife tried to head up there w/ no snow or real mud and couldn't do it in her Honda Pilot. We took hers b/c of the third row. I can make it up w/ my eyes closed. One day it'll be exactly what I want just takes time and lots of $$$$$. I've done as much as I can so far...wife doesn't really get it...but give me time. Much easier to apologize than ask for permission. Problem is, if i spend 2k, she has to spend 2k on something for herself.

Needs a lift huh??

As far as off-roading, mine will likely never see anything more serious than fire roads, if I can find even that here. NY State is very heavily overrequlated, and there simply is no legal place to do any off-roading that is at all attractive to me. I think there's a private park near Syracuse, but the focus is rock crawling. Not my cup of tea. My idea of fun would be something like beaches, fire roads, that kind of thing. I've read about some really nice places on the West coast, Calif., Oregon, Washington, etc., but 2500 miles is a bit of a cruise.

However, the T4R's capabilities are not totally wasted here. Having purchased her used in late November of 08, to this day, approx. 1/3 of her time has been spent in 4WD due to winter driving conditions.

Light dirt road and sand action only couple times. Had my runner for almost 3 years. After I get some real tires I'm sure to head out and be adventurous with it. Funny thing, when I went to toyota dealership back then I wanted to get a tacoma 4wd 4 door, I ended up getting the runner. About 2 weeks later the dealership popped up with the FJ cruiser. Kind of wish I got the FJ cruiser instead.
I'm a truck guy with trails in mind but in time the runner's gonna get some action. I've grown to like the runner and in the end I'm happy after having it this long. Can't wait to test out some of it's off road abilities.
