How Many of you are waiting a few years to buy a 5th Gen

How Many of you are waiting a few years to buy a 5th Gen? I never buy a new first-run production model because it has no history and you don't know what if any flaws are going to arise. Toyota is a reliable brand but not as reliable as they used to be. Also could there be a possibililty that LED tail lights and the V8 engine option could make a return

I am waiting a couple of years . I also want a different color!!! ...the lack of color options bothers me a lot!!!...everybody has the same colors....that sucks. Plus of course they are going to improve and correct imperfections to make it even better.

I think by the end of 1012 they should already have the perfect all around 5th Generation built. After that they would be just little add ons here and there and maybe already working on the 6th Gen design

Yeah, here too. Not enough features in the current lineup to make me commit, but there is definitely a sound basis to build on. Perhaps better powerplant and 4x4 options on the SR5, and I'll be ready to go for it.

At the earliest, it'll be 2 and half years before I can think about it. We need to pay off the Rav4 first before we can afford to look into a second vehicle and I will only consider the 4Runner if they bring back the manual transmission. Otherwise, I'll be looking at the Tacoma double cab. I refuse to ever buy another automatic transmission vehicle. I hate driving the Rav4 so much that I am considering taking the bus to work in the new year and not driving.

What other car is that you would consider? Shouldn't the issue be if it is equal to any other car / truck / SUV that you would consider purchasing. If it is equal / superior / inferior to something that is no longer manufactured is fairly irrelevant.......

Waiting for more 4WD options for the TE and hopefully the new V8 as an option. Towing getting cut by over 30% makes very little sense. Not sure why they revert back to the 20th century for a 2010 model. I like everything else. :biggrin2:

X3... Give me 7000 lbs Towing Capacity, 4WD and the 4.6L V8 in the SR5.
Until then, there will be no 5th Generation 4Runner in my Driveway.

I'll wait until they do the mid-cycle refresh because I too love the projector headlight and LED rears on my urban. I'm also not loving the wheels of the SE...I'm hoping the mid-cycle refresh will include changes to the above. Otherwise, I may go take a look at the new Jeep Grand Cherokees that are coming out.. or Land Rover LR4.

Well, the question wasn't "what else would you consider aside from a 5th gen 4Runner?" The question is would I wait a few years for it into its life cycle before considering one. I will, when it's mechanically equal to the 4th, until then, the wait continues. Maybe Toyota will get it right with the 6th.

It's prefectly relevant, because I'm not in a predicament that my 4R "needs" replacing. If I'm replacing my 4R it's because I feel like trading up. At this time, the 2010 is not for me.

But if it was today that I'm going to get another new SUV, I'll consider the TLC or LX570. The GX460 is out--the barn door is a deal breaker for me. It's absolutely useless in my garage to access the cargo area. The Sequoia is out--too much bulk, heft and pork. And I'm not a fan of IRS for a truck.

If I were to get another 4Runner, it'll probably be a 2013+ model. I don't finish grad school until then, so it'll be a perfect time to trade up, especially since my 2003 will be 10 years old. But we'll see...at the moment I don't think I'd go with another SUV. If I had to replace my 4Runner today, it'll probably be with a sedan or a CUV.

Even though the 4th generation makes my heart beat a bit faster, I've been watching and waiting and thinking the 5th would really be the smartest in the iterration right from the intro, starting with "you pick 'em" for engines: 4, 6, 8 and diesel (as the rest of World has).

Geeeez....I do like the looks of the 5th but can't help seeing similarities if not homage to the nasty, boxy looks of the newest Pilot (which I see only women driving).

What's the chance that Toyota would be receptive to a plea for more of a working man's vehicle: a basic white truck with a diesel and unflashy fender flares a la 2003s but with adjustable and heated seats, split air and kick-butt tunes ???

Am I really a prospect at all ??

I put down 2013, but unless they have a center diff and a V8 in the SR5, I won't be getting one.
