How many of you got this bracket?

Do you have this bracket in your 4runner? First time I am seeing this!

I have those two bolts at the bottom side of the top plate but wonder the purpose of it.

At some point Toyota decided to reinforce that plate! We now know why!

Oh. It needs reinforced. The pipe weld is the weakest point. That entire coil spring setup plate is not one of the best designs.

I wish they just would have made access plugs from above for the shock bolts. As that make shock changing a lot easier.

Just a design flaw. They happen.


Those bolts were probably plate alignment bolts for the frame jig when machines welded the frames together.

A pile of frame holes are only in the frame so machines and jigs can align the steel fast and machine weld the frames together as fast as the frame assembly line can do it.

Nope. We cant. I haven't seen that bracket on any early years or late model. My 2001 dosent have it.

Also that bracket I have never seen in our parts diagram on frame parts. I dont think any other Toyota uses the same frame as our 3rd gen but I could be wrong.

I am currently dealing with a cracked-weld at top plate to tube-cross member (issue was the shock bottomed out and acted as a bump stop). I later found the entire plate is ripping from the frame and moving towards the passenger side (right side) see my other thread. Based on the shock orientation we can expect the force is towards the right side.

I wish that reinforcement bracket was there to prevent that lateral movement.

The image also shows a different routing of rear brake hose!

My 2001 has 2 rear brake lines and I almost certain I dont that bracket. I will double check. I would have seen it as I cleaned and painted the entire underneath of that rig. :/

I too has never seen this on any of the 4runners I've dealt with! I watched the video just to see what kind of springs should I use and then I saw this bracket.
