How Many Switched from an FJ to a 4Runner?

Wondering how many 4Runner owners here bailed on their FJ's (and why) when the new 4Runner came out.
Myself, I've always liked the FJ's and I've come close to buying twice, but can't seem get past a few of the short comings, visibility, mpg, small fuel tank, half door. But love the retro front end.

I didnt switch, but was planning on buying a FJ but after researching and test driving both, I ended up with the 4runner. The quieter ride and the visibility were what changed my mind. :toilet:

2008 fj

I switched over from an 2008 FJ. She was awesome, but I couldn't get over the half doors, especially after I got my dog. The ride was pretty good though.

I was shopping for a used FJ, and was pretty much settled on a Beige one with 19,000 mi., when my BIL told me about the new 4Runner in the afternoon.

Called the local stealership, said they got a TE in stock that day. Drove up and test drove it on a Friday night at 6pm...and drove it off the lot the next day at 4...

I did, traded a 2008 Sandstorm FJC for the 4Runner. Kid and wife are much happier with it. My sone like that he can roll down the windows instead of feeling like you are in an airplane.

Not an FJ but a 2010 trd off road Tacoma, after I lifted it I had driveline vibrations that drove me nuts so I pulled the trigger on a RUNNER.

2008 FJ TRD to T4R via Audi ALLroad.

FJ had a weaker range (mpg), no power rear window, small backseat and cargo area, and a few blind spots.

Love my 4runner!

It was fun to wheel the crap out of my FJ every weekend, just don't have the time or money anymore!
And my daughter just turned 8, she needs her own door.

First post on this site I joined a couple of months ago. I don't have a 4runner yet planning on a purchase within the next year for a 4runner. I currently have a 2007 TRD edition FJ and I love it BUT I am looking for something with more room, physically bigger, it must be a Toyota. The blind spots don't really bother me but I want a roomier back seat since my son is getting older and for some reason he hates the back seat of the FJ. Right now it is going to be a 4runner Trail Edition. This truck fits my needs. I would get one now but we just took delivery on a Highlander for my wife, so it's looking like next year. I know there is a gas mileage issue on the FJ but I'm not sure yet what the Runner is like, guess I'll find out soon enough. Don't get me wrong I love my FJ but there seems to me a few short comings that I think the Runner would address. I also would feel more comfortable in a bigger suv especially where I drive it reminds me of a demo derby.

Didn't come from A FJC, but from a 2003 Highlander Base 2.4L I4. had a 98 4Runner before, it was totaled in a accident @ 65 MPH and I walked away w/o a scratch or a bruise. It was a 98 SR5 V6 2WD, tan/silver exterior and tan interior. I miss it but I do love my 03 T4R SR5 V8 2WD, white exterior w/ cladding. tan interior.

No FJ, came from a Tacoma. Wanted something "nicer" that I could still call a "truck" but not $Tundra$ nice if ya know what i mean :fro: I had my doubts about an SUV but after a month and 1000 miles I gotta say I'm really liking the new Runner :boink: :reddance:

I was consedierig a Jeep but I kept reading how bad it was. I saw the 4Runner and looked it over before doing alot of research on the net. Decided on the 4Runner and dealt for one on the Internet. I left my Ford Explorer a few months later. It had 210,000 miles on it and was 13 years old.

Dude you are so right the FJ was my first Toyota, I had GM's all my life, 4 pickups to be exact, and I was really really surprised at how good the 'yotas are. I won't look at anything else. The only GM left in the stable is my classic '67 GTO. That I won't give up!But with a new vehicle hands down Toyota is the way to go.

I went from a 2007 FJ to my 2011 4Runner. I was very happy with the FJ and sunk a lot of money into it, but needed more room, with all the capabilities.... The 4Runner is the perfect vehicle for me.

Traded in a 2007 FJ for a 2010 TE. I haven't looked back. The visibility and four real doors were the key to the change.

The FJ windshield was a magnet for rocks and bugs and the mileage wasn't that great, at least not as good as the 4R. I also needed more interior room. I prefer the FJammer stereo though.

Us too. My wife was looking at a 4Runner for ever and there is no way I'd give up my FJ. Now we have the best of both worlds!
