How Many Switched from an FJ to a 4Runner?

I am in this club.. Liked my FJ, but it did not work well with a few kids and dog. The half door and no roll down windows in the back made it very difficult especially on trips over 50 miles.

When I test drove a TE it was an easy decision and I did get a good deal on the trade.

We traded in our beloved FJ for a 2011 TE.

We have 2 young (messy) girls (1 & 5 yr old) and we loved the black interior and rubber floors. All we really wanted was a bigger FJ. We searched and searched for months before we settled on a TE. We actually didn't even know about them but when i saw a brochure I knew then what had to happen. Had to wait another few months before we found one in the color we wanted but we finally got it and couldn't be happier with it. With the addition of weathertech mats it is now a "bigger FJ" and the perfect rig for us.

So how I ended up with a T4R?

Bought a new FJ in 2007 and it was an awesome rig! Came with TRD rims and BFG KO's. Put 100K+ on it and never had any issues. Just regular Maintenance. Was on an FJ forum and learned about quite a few easy mods including the a-trac hack. FJ was great on-off road and excellent in the winter

Flash to april 2011. FJ was still solid as a rock but was getting some miles on her. Its the wifes daily commute vehicle and being 5 years old...Thought it was time for something new.

Big Mistake

Purchased a brand new Jeep Rubicon 2 door. Wife and I always wanted one and figured what the hell...4wheel drive, dual tops, Nav...What more could you want? Plus I couldnt believe how much they offered on trade for a 5 year old toyota! I knew what to expect from KBB but they really steped up.

Unfortunatley...The jeep got old really fast. I dont mind a trucklike ride but you would feel every nook and cranny in the road along with the jeep feeling like it was jumping from one side to another when you hit a large pothole in the road due to short wheelbase.(our roads suck) The rear cargo room is tiny and ended up with the rear seat folded most of the time. Wasnt too impressed offroad and putting soft top up was always a PIA. Underpowered and always had to keep it floored to maintain highway speeds.

Now dont get me wrong...I'm not bashing Jeeps and not trying to pi@@ off any jeep lovers. I really wanted to like it. My wife and I both wanted to like it...Almost everyone I talked to with a wrangler loves it. I guess my wife and I are just not die hard jeepers

Came to the conclusion wife is miserable and I finally came to terms I wasnt happy with the wrangler either.We kept going back to how good the yoda was to us so started hunting for another FJ. Started searching and pickins were slightly slim. Did a side by side of the FJ to 4R and was pretty much sold. Loved the FJ but was missing a few creature comforts ( power seats, moonroof ) plus the extra room and 4 doors. The end result? A new 2011 blizzard pearl SR5 non leather with moonroof, upgraded stereo and sport seats. Found one that was a hell of a deal plus only lost a few hundered off trade of wrangler vs purchase price (well, paid a little interest, but then again with getting a TON of equity from trade of FJ helped) but now happy, comfortable, and back in a toyota.

*Already added a set of BFG KO's and gives the truck a lil more of an offroad agressive look and they are amazing!!

Hoping for years of trouble free driving both on-off road plus adding mods...Its always about the mods.

I wish I was one of the lucky one to have both in my garage, I just had to get a second car for the wife unfortunately I can't afford an FJ, ended up with a civic but on the other hand that is hers to drive and I have my runner. Maybe in a couple years I'll get an FJ.

I switched from an 05 Tacoma TRD DC. I was considering the FJ, but I knew the lack of the rear doors and the swinging gate would annoy me parking where I typically have to park (cramped underground parking garages). Very happy with the decision, and I get lots of compliments on the truck.

i went to the dealership to buy an FJ, left in 2012 sr5 instead.
