did you pay the plat ext warranty out of pocket or was it rolled into the loan? if its rolled into the loan, the refund will go back to the bank.

Wrote check for 35,350 to dealer. Will have to pay tax separately when registering.
MSRP around $38900? Thats a great deal.

you would think dest charge would be less to HI than to CA or gulf states, since its pretty much a straight shot from japan to HI, and a quick jaunt to CA.
now I can understand the full price for gulf states since they have to go thru the panama canal to get to the gulf states.

I'm really disturbed that some 4runner buyers in other states are being held hostage because either there are too few dealers nearby or too few selections on the parking lot.
If you like to haggle directly, why dont you guys buy in california ? at least you have lots of choices. theres a ton of dealers. if your ready to buy and only want to go to one dealer if possible, then make sure to check out Longo toyota in El monte, CA reportedly the largest toyota dealer in the US( I bought from them once back in 1998). if your not happy with them, theres so many nearby within a 25 to 50 mile range or just enter the Los Angeles zip code 90071 in the toyota dealer finder here Toyota Dealer Locator | Find a Toyota Car Dealership Near You , and you will get a list of dealers galore. I would imagine other major cities such as new york, houston, etc also have lots of dealers.
if you dont want the hassle of negotiating, then either try the online method, e.g. autonationsdirect or apply to be a credit union member because many credit unions have fleet pricing(they have an in-house auto shopper, but call the credit union your interested first or check their website if they have a car buying service before becoming a member). Another option is Costco - My co-worker told me that Costco also has fleet pricing.

I don't think that is his issue. the issue is that the vehicles are cheaper by about 2k in California, but the tax rate is anywhere from 7.5% minimum (6.5 state + 1.0 uniform local tax) to 10%.
texas is 6.25% if I remember correctly. so if he buys a vehicle in CA, the 1.25-3.75% tax he is over paying is money in the wind when he goes back to texas since they wont refund the difference when he goes to register.

Ordered 14 limited today
I ordered a 14 limited no 3rd row and sticker $45,200 and I am getting it for 41,400 which is $350 over invoice. (They said anyway...) Cash deal. If I paid too much, that is ok. Profit is not a dirty word and the sales people were very helpful. I am a sales person myself so they have to feed their families too and they are not getting rich off of my deal! I am excited to be getting a new rig. I have an 08 v8 trail with 120,000 problem free miles. How much should I expect to get off of craigslist ad? Asking 19,500 which I know is high. Thanks!

It doesn't work like this. If you are an out-of-state buyer and the dealer doesn't title and register the vehicle for you, they don't charge sales tax at all. You pay it when you get to your local DMV and title the truck.
If you fly from Texas to Cali to pick up a new 4Runner you won't pay any sales tax to Cali.

that is what i was trying to convey, if he buys it and drives it off the lot, he has to pay the cali tax and it varies from location to location from 7.5 to 10%. so when he registers it in texas, they will give him the credit of the tax paid in california, but they wont refund the difference above the 6.25% texas has.

but then you get into the issue of what is the cost to have it trucked out of state compared to buying it in texas. its a non issue since he cant find what he wants in a 1k radius of his home location so he has to get a better deal to offset the loss in taxes paid in california.
