Something still doesn't add up. Richmond's sales tax rate is 5.3%.
Your negotiated price on the purchase agreement is 32069.54. 5.3% sales tax would put you at 33769.23. Add your other fees and you're well over 34k.
So lets say they calculated Sales tax off with the purchase fee included, that's 34290.46 still not including your other fees.
I'd like to know how you paid only 4% sales tax. Also interesting is that it's listed as a Title tax, not Sales tax.
I then looked up the dealer site.
New 2015 Toyota 4Runner For Sale | Henrico VA
They have a 15 SR5 MSRP at 36430. Online discount they list it for 34930. You claim to have got them down to 32069 which is almost another 3k off. No trade, paid cash (so the dealer didn't get a kickback from a local bank or Toyota Financial).
Sorry, something still doesn't add up but i don't care anymore.
Sorry, I can't help you anymore with your concerns. I posted my numbers, then a picture of the actual purchase order.
Anyway this post is for general use by the forum community, not to start an argument for no reason. My post is just like everyone else's, I'm offering info that people can look at for fun or use to help them make an informed decision about what they should pay for a similar 2014 SR5.
Last point I'll make is for everyone who is nervous about going into a dealership. You can probably get the deal you want, and certainly never have to overpay. Hows that? Be willing to walk away from the deal. Let me say that again, be willing to walk away from the deal! A lot of dealerships have ruthless salesman that are way better at negotiating than you might be. So my advice would be this.
1) Check the prices on True Car for your zip code
2) Come up with a absolute maximum number you would pay ahead of time. Its critical that you stick to this no matter what. If the price is over what your comfortable paying than thank them for their time and walk away.
3) If paying cash, negotiate the price backwards. Start at the final number (car+tax+fees=final number) and only discuss this amount. Salesman like to quote numbers and get you to agree to a deal then at the last minute add on more fees that are "non-negotiable" So the price you thought you had agreed on is not the price that shows up on the buyers order your signing. As long as the final number is within your range, it doesn't matter how many fees they charge or how they write it up.
Thats pretty much it. Hope that helps.
