How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

Nice.. Which dealer was this? I have a white 22 ORP but wouldn't mind trading it towards a white pro, do they even exist though? :noidea:ound: I've seen lime rush, but I don't want that color.




If the dealer is doing tint and clear bra for $1k, ask them what they'll be using? Could be the bottom of the barrel materials. Best to do them yourself outside of the dealer. My brother got his sequoia pro few weeks ago and it had factory clear bra. That thing they laid down on the hood and fenders was hilarious. It was about 5" wide only.

I'd honestly would just pay the extra and get the off road premium. Regardless if you don't see yourself off roading, it's better to have features such as lockers incase you ever find yourself needing it. You rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. Plus they'll probably hold their resale value better than any SR5. The manual transfer case is a better more reliable source vs electronic transfer case.

Buying Used, or new?

Probably already been asked, but surprisingly, I didn't see much when I searched.
My hunt for a used 4Runner has taken many twists and turns. Started out cheap a few months ago, just a plain SR5, newest we could afford was like a 2016. I have watched in horror as the prices have gone up, up, up, making me try to twist our finances in a pretzel to afford one. However, our finances have suddenly started to look a little better, so pushed our search to include a 2019 ORP. But then, the 2020 upgraded the head unit, gauge info screen and TSS. I rationalized this may be the last vehicle like this we ever purchase, so might as well go for it. But the dealers I asked all kept saying a new one isn't "that much more", and looks like that is the case, depending on the options and dealer (that's always fun to untangle). Is that the consensus, that a 2022 ORP isn't "that much" more than a 2020 with under 30K miles?? I have never bought a new car in my life, always 4 or 5 year old used and the thought of new is freaking me out since it was always pounded into my head that a new car is for suckers because of depreciation. But everyone says "4Runners hold their value so well", and I get the full warranty/2 year scheduled oil changes, get more of the features I want and not the ones I don't. Yeah, but is the insane prices people are asking for used 4Runners going to crash after the Supply Chain issue is over and turn that upside down?

In the past and in normal circumstances, always buy a used car at least 2-3 years old. This is again, given normal markets.

However, the current market for a 4Runner, is terribly in favor of the seller and/or dealer. Used prices are nuts. A new one at MSRP or even a smidge above, will yield you better results. One HUGE plus is that you’re not buying anybody’s used problem.

We recently sold our 2000 4Runner for a what I think is a crazy figure for a 21 year old truck with 200k.

That said, it is cheaper to keep her. If you can limp along and maintain your current until things get better and there is more supply, and there will be, you should wait.

Unfortunately, my old '84 Dodge PU is really limping. Failed smog and needs a new Cat. Do you think the price of New vehicles are as inflated as the later model Used ones?

BTW, what did you get for your 3rd Gen? Ours is a 1999 and just turned over 200K. Still love driving it. It's currently our GOOD vehicle ;-).

I am tempted to just swallow my pride on the sunroof and negotiate some extras either on the 4Runner (such as extended warranty) or more for my current trade and just call it a wash. I really don't want to wait another 4 months

Only you can decide what works for you, but I personally wouldn't compromise on the Moonroof. I enjoy having the Moonroof on my TRD ORP. I wouldn't buy a 4Runner without one. I had one on my 3rd gen, and it was flawless for 22+ years.

How tall are you? I'm 6' with a tallish body. Our 3rd Gen has a Moonroof and noticed there was just barely enough head room when we bought it 17 years ago, but don't notice it much now.

I never bought a 4th gen, because it had less headroom than my 3rd gen.

The 5th gen has more headroom than the 3rd gen.

In my geographic area (San Francisco), it shows a brand spanking new 2022 TRD OFP with Standard Equipment going for $45,595.00. A Certified Used 2020 TRD ORP going for $49,125.00! The lowest "advertised priced" model the local dealer shows on their website is $50,539 (includes KDSS, cargo tray, running boards, moonroof, and a bunch of other crap like the stupid TRD "Performance" Exhaust that the NADA website wouldn't let me add on a new vehicle, for an adjustment of $3000. The dealer also added a bend over, "dealer price adjustment" of $3000. So I guess when all that's added up, it's in the ballpark. I know it depends on the dealer, but in general, are dealers "dealing" at all on price, or is it still a Seller's market, take it or leave it?

Got my ‘22 ORP W/ KDSS for MSRP. Was super hard to find, and nearly impossible without a markup. Camped out in front of the dealership with my checkbook in hand every morning of the delivery window to get it, and was happy to pay MSRP based in what i saw dealers doing (5-6k mark ups on off roads, 10 on pro’s) made a killing on my Jeep that i sold to get it, too.

As i was doing paperwork, 5 people came in behind me for it….one yelled at the salesman about not being able to get it. “You said you werent allowing anyone to reserve it? How is it gone already?” “Ma’am, we’ve been open for 45 minutes. He was here 30 minutes before we opened, waiting, with his money ready to go. We’ve always said this truck was first come, first serve….”

NADA is good for dealership prices and KBB is good for private sales. As of right now, I think it's still a seller's market due to inventory shortages. At least a couple dealerships in my area are taking orders again on non-TRD Pro trims.

That is exactly what they are going for on used at least in my area. 3-5000 over msrp. You are better off buying a new one off the wall for msrp and wait

Exactly what we're going to do. If we wanted an older 5th Gen, we could save a few thousand, but decided to get something with the more advanced safety features, low miles, and updated head unit, which bumps us up into a 2020, so why not a 2022? It will be the first new vehicle I've ever bought. As much as I'm not looking forward to spending this much money when 3 years ago we could have gotten a much cheaper used 4Runner, the thought of being almost forced into getting a brand new one is actually pretty exciting...no worrying about mechanical problems, frame rust, weird, unexplained smells on hot days, a full warranty, and all those miles WE get to put on it!

It's been said on this thread before, but if you can expand your search area to nearby states, you stand a much better chance of finding what you want for MSRP. Even if you fly there and drive it back you come out ahead compared to the $3-10K 'market adjustment' many dealers are charging.

If there was no Covid and I had a Real California ID (needed to fly now), I might consider it, though would much rather build a relationship with a local dealer for any problems that might crop up.
