How much are people paying for the NEW 4Runner?

I got a black 2022 4Runner SR5 Premium 4x4 with XP Predator pkg for $49,000 in January 2022. It had 4 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. The dealer also gave me a lifetime/unlimited miles powertrain warranty!

I purchased a new blue ORP for MSRP from Toyota of Seattle. No compulsory junky dealer add-ons, no BS, no high pressure in finance to buy a bazillion extra services, coverage etc. Highly recommended. I saw it on their website, filled out a form, and had it in my driveway less than 2 weeks later.

It's amazing how different dealer experiences have been my area. Like many of you all, I've seen garbage like a $5K added dealer markup, $800 to $3000 mandatory crap add-ons, unreasonable deposits, generally lethargic/arrogant staff, etc. There are dealers in my area I will never step foot in again due to these poor business practices, and one or two that have earned my business and will always be my first stop for new cars, service, parts, etc.

There is quite a range in dealer attitudes, just like people in general. My local dealer in San Francisco was very nice, but calmly said "No, the $3,000 Dealer Adjustment on a TRD ORP is non-negotiable. If you like, you can put down a $500 deposit and get on out 2-4 month waiting list" .
Another dealer happily said they don't believe in tacking on an extra Dealer charge as they want a long term customer, not an easy, high margin sale.

Tons of variables here and you'll get lots of different answers. Length of the dealer's waiting list, your preferred config, the dealer's volume (which correlates to their allocation), geographic location relative to the port, etc.

I have my name on wait lists with two dealers for a Pro. I am the first in line for my color/trim and placed the deposits the first week of December. Still waiting for an allocation. One dealer is larger than the other, both haven't seen many Pros allocated in the last three months.

I am just anxious for no real logical reason.

I have a signed agreement for the MSRP….but also a $1,000 non-refundable deposit which doesn’t matter to me as I am dead serious and a cash buyer and the dealer knows it, they were astounded when I offered $2K to get the ball rolling.
I also let the dealer know I will not compromise on the stuff I really want/don’t want. If it takes waiting to the 2023 model year, so be it.
This will not be replacing any of our vehicles as much as the dealer drooled over the possibility of us trading in my wife’s CRV, little old lady driven, garage kept, 36K mile cream puff. Recent gas issues have convinced us to keep it for awhile as our errand car, 35mpg looks pretty good right now.
We have owned our 1990 since new and decided we wanted another new runner before they join the complicated “bag of snakes” turbo engine compartment trend.
I am keeping “Goldie” as my hunting/shooting/air conditioned/dog car/heated SxS. It is a adopted member of the family.
My other sweetheart is a 2004.5 non-DEF, pristine/loaded 4wd Ram Laramie Cummins quad cab tow vehicle that has accumulated a whopping 50k miles since 2010 when I “stole” it.
4 vehicles for a retired couple seems like a lot but it is what we like. The only bummer is Goldie will get kicked out of the single garage bay for the CRV when the new Runner arrives. We have 2 double and a single bays but the Dodge and up-coming new Runner will each have a double by themselves.

We put a deposit on an SR5 Premium, black metallic with beige interior, for just under $46k. Add-ons include moonroof, 3rd row seating, black-out emblems, wilderness package and dual power ports. Should be here mid April.

Was dealing with another dealer, on a Lunar Rock TRD ORP, but they had a $5k dealer "additional assessments" of tint, undercoating, clear bra, etc., that they would not budge on, nor omit. While trying to negotiate removing the added costs, another customer put a deposit down. Poorly run negotiations on their part I think, but they are also a smaller volume dealer. Ended up going with a larger, no BS dealer in the area. Only thing we didn't get is a locker, which we can add later and are happy with the choice we made.

Why would you do such a thing? I wouldn't deal with dealers like this.

Heck, the Porsche dealer in San Jose I went to weekend before last with my friend even refunds deposits...

edit: reading your past comments make me want to say WTF even more.. they don't even have allocation, yet they won't refund your deposit? WOW...

I'm in the Wichita KS area, just put a deposit down on my ORP. Paid $1,500 over MSRP, and the vehicle came with $2,000 in accessories that I didn't order, because you can't order anything through Toyota right now. Total price: $48,015

I'm in San Francisco and every dealer I've called says the same thing, nothing is configurable, no "special orders", no Port Option changes, you can choose what is coming in the next allotment and that's it. I did have one dealer say they would take off the TRD Performance exhaust I said I didn't want, but they charge a $3000 "Dealer Adjustment" they wouldn't budge on so wrote them off as other dealers in the area do NOT charge over MSRP. Really sucks to be shopping for a vehicle at this moment in time and would wait 6 months if we could, but we need one now. :(. At least the dealer we're working with had something with 80% of what we wanted and not a lot of spendy extras we didn't.

Actually they will refund when the model year runs out but I don’t even want it then, I want a 4Runner, simple.
I am in no hurry nor do I need it….we just want it.
I worked/resided in the Bay Area for 40yrs…..how many dealers are selling at MSRP?
I know the answer BTW.

I've decided I'm not ready to buy, but in corresponding with a few dealers here in Central Texas, one of them told me that since the 4Runner hadn't arrived at port yet, they could omit all the port installed options that were supposed to be on this vehicle. This was after I told them that there's no way I'm paying $49k for an SR5 Premium.

Answer: Hansel Toyota, Petaluma. No Adm.

I purchased my 2022 there yesterday, it was customer ordered, but the customer failed to get financing when it arrived, two days ago. I stumbled on it while out looking for a pickup. I asked is there adm, they said no, I said sold.

No extras or add on's, in fact, I qualified for the 500 rebate and there was another 109.00 off from the original deal with the person who ordered it, so got it 609 under msrp.

6 miles on when I took it for a test drive.

Yikes, $49K for an SR5P? That's the price the dealer quoted me on an ORP with KDSS and a moonroof!

Premium plus?

We wanted Premium Plus on our ORP to get the Multi Terrain Monitor. The dealer invoice only showed the "Premium Package" with no "Plus," for $0. He said it seems like you can only get the camera system on the Pro now, but who knows...it's a hot mess trying to buy a car now ;(.

I know it's been fairly recent phenomenon, but does it seem like the insane price for gas is scaring away the crowds and waiting lists at the dealer that were lining up to buy 4Runners?

I think that most people who can spend 50k on an suv have the financial resources to weather this inflation spike and higher gas prices. We're not making a 50k decision on an extra 50 bucks a month on gas.

I do agree that those with long commutes and fewer resources will be looking into other options.

Though, it's still tough to find a similar suv with the same reliability and reputation.
