How much could I sell my truck for?

I've been thinking lately, if I was to post my truck for sale right now, what would I be able to get out of it?

1999 4Runner Base 2WD Automatic converted to SR5 Highlander 4WD w/ R150F 5-speed

For the record: It'll be a cold, FREEZING day in Hell before I would EVER consider even thinking of selling it. I really just wouldn't mind having a better idea of it's value, as I still value it as the day I bought it for $5,500.

Taking all of the serious things in mind, it's had a lot of paint work (lower value), it has 196k, and it's practically a Frankenstein. I was thinking the value may actually be pretty low. Hey, but you guys seem to like it! I mean, how am I supposed to come up with a value for a truck that looks this different than the day it was made? I can't just add up all of my mods... nor am I really that interested in how much I've actually spent. Suspension and engine internals are still pretty much stock (not for long, planning a few things )

Main mods are in the signature and build thread... this is more or less a question for those who have already seen my build, it's way too long to read through just for answering this question.

Is it a 6cylimder or 4. I read your build thread before but someone posted the other day that it was a 4 cylinder. I always thought it was a 6.

Of course price sells anything if it is priced right. The right price for a quick sale of my 2005 is 3x too little. It's worth a whole lot to me, not much on the market. Yours is probably even more extreme on that ratio.

Well think about what a regular '99 4wd highlander would be worth with that many miles.

In fact, lets just assume that's where you started.. a 99 highlander 4wd 5speed that for some odd reason has a 4 banger with a S/C.. lol

Then you take into account the usual 3" lift, tires, some armor, yadda yadda..

I'd Say 5-6k.

It's definitely not worth selling....but I'd agree with Ripcord, and say that it's probably worth around $5000 - $6000.00 market value.

However, myself, after putting the work and money I've put into mine, I'd never sell it either! In fact, I once had someone place a paper on my windshield asking if I'd be willing to sell it....and even left a contact number there...lol! Never even crossed my mind to accept the offer....

I think you could get 7k for it with the right buyer. The S/C is rare and it's a beast. I see other 4runners not nearly as nice as yours and with 200k go for 6-7K. The 4cyl without the s/c wouldn't be as appealing, but now that it is boosted you should be able to get more money.

Yeah, it's a 4 cylinder. Some could say that's a negative, but it is supercharged. 3RZ motors are very reliable and can get great mileage compared to a 5VZ... except for I can't keep my foot out of it. The gears and manual transmission really help with the power, too.

Exactly what I was thinking. I have been having people tell me that I could easily sell it for 9k, while some say I could sell it for 6k.

A 4WD 4Runner in good stock condition goes for anywhere between 6-10 thousand in this area. Mine's a frankenstein of who knows how many different 4Runners. Hood isn't original, hell, most of it isn't. The only things I haven't messed with are the bottom end of the motor and some of the body.

I wouldn't trade it for an AMG, though... but what would a Toyota enthusiast find to be a fair price?

I thought so, too. If anything, it's the oddball truck that someone made in their garage. It's almost like a salvaged vehicle with a clean title since you really have to trust the previous owner knew what they were doing. I wouldn't say that this isn't just usual lift and tires, but I know what you mean.

My neighbor down the street sold her desert dune 1999 base model 2WD automatic for $6,000 the other day. 165k on the clock, stock to the bone. 15" steelies and 225's. The only mod it had was a cheapo head unit and the maintenance was up to date. This thing looked like it was struck by the bland police.

Maybe I'll mess with people and throw up a craigslist feeler?

If you Lived in Hawaii You could get more than 9 guaranteed. Guys sell 88 Toyota pickups with high mileage, body rust, messed up paint jobs and no ac for 6500....and people actually buy them for that price. Toyotas and Hondas are like gold down here. It's pretty crazy

It's worth 6-7k all day long on Craigslist because you & I both know what 4Runners in this area go for. CRAZY amounts for 10-16 y/o vehicles with 100-200k+ miles on the clock.

I'm inclined to think that the people on T4R.Org would be willing to pay as much or more because they've seen the blood, sweat & tears that went into it, not to mention that it's basically a Highlander on steroids with that blower (and it's a 5 spd 4x4 to boot). Maybe up to 8k here?

I definately think you could easily get 7 from a buyer who appreciates and understands the modification of the vehicle. Either way you would definately get alot more than what you could get from when it was a stock 4. Which reminds me, I seem to recall having a discussion with you once where you argued that modifying a vehicle from OEM decreases its value. ironic. thank you for being the very person to disprove your own point and confirm mine

Sorry dude but I am in the same boat here. I don't want to sell my 4Runner but it is kind of lame having to accept that it is really only worth $6,000 KBB maybe more if the right buyer came along. The few trucks sold at $10,000 all have less than 120k on them and for good reason. The average 4Runner with 200,000 miles will have spend a good $3,000 on maintenance between 150k - 200k miles. Hell I have spent $5k easy when you include my $3k new heads.

The truly messed up part is that a buyer with $7000 will not be able to find a truck like mine or COB's in SoCal that is in such good shape, 4WD, good trans, well maintained w/ records, running perfectly, steers tight, new brakes, new radiator, new tires, clean paint, sound system, armor ect.

What can you buy for $7,000? HAHAHA have you looked on CL for cars people? $7,000 is joker money for a ride like COBs.

im smack in the center between LA and San Fran, not really a bad place, could be better though, im only an hour away from the sequoia national forest, lots of trails and whatnot
