2006 Sport

Tomorrow I will take possession of a incredibly clean 2006 Sport 4Runner w/ the 4.7l V8, 82K miles, aftermarket wheels, off-road tires (31" I think) and aftermarket exhaust.

They were asking $16,430

Sale Price = $15,300

No floor mats but I was looking @ the Weathertech mats.

My Tacoma lasted me 13 years and was still running strong but it was time for an upgrade. I think I deserve it!

I was not sure if I should get the V8 so I hope I made a good decision.
 
I can guarantee you that prices vary greatly from state to state. I searched everywhere in the US for 2 years, looking for a specific vehicle. I ended up flying to Vancouver, Washington in late February to buy a 2007 Sport (4wd, roof rack, useless spoiler of course), spotless engine (yeah, I know they cleaned it, but the fluids looked great), Sun/moon roof, JBL stereo w/6 disc changer, auto everything, nav-free, AC plug (SCORE!), Natural white, perfect carpet, new mats, cargo mat, cargo shelf, cargo cover, 2" hitch, perfect interior, not a door ding on the exterior (how does anyone do that?), tires so new they had the nibs still on them, NO RUST, only 40K miles with Toyota Certified warranty for $20,000. Compared to what I could find here in Southern CA, that was a steal.

What I found in my two year long search was that v8 are worth less than v6 (gas mileage over power, especially in CA), Sports are a hot commodity (considering the complaints I hear about X-reas, I don't know why they should be-although I LOVE X-reas at the moment), 2003-2005 were considerably lower in price, but usually because they had higher miles as well, anything over 100K dropped the price, anything under 50K raised the price, West coast and Midwest were more expensive than East coast, North was cheaper than South, and New York had a bunch of unscrupulous people selling flooded 4runners to people without a clue. Also, Carfax was worth it's weight in gold, as there were several I looked at where the sellers were "surprised" to find out the car was listed as "salvage". What killed me was that a lot of the cars were going for as much as they cost new. People love the 2003-2008.


P.S. I'm new to the 4runner game and I'm trying to figure out if this car has a lift on it because it has 12" of clearance instead of 8.9" (it does have 17" wheels and 32" tires). Would someone direct me to where I look to figure this out? (Google search didn't help-I must be using the wrong search terms)
 
2004 Limited V8

Grey on grey, V8, 5spd auto. Heated leather, dual-zone climate control, Nav second cargo area shelf, sunroof. Almost new tires (still has the little nubbies). full service records showing detail jobs, timing belts and water pump service at the dealer. Super clean inside. Nav points indicate most miles were highway. Only downside, if you want it to be, is 204K miles.

Spent 9000 in Seattle, WA about 3 weeks ago. Not a Toyota dealership, but one that has treated my family pretty good over the years.
 
2006 Sport edition, V8, w/aftermarket nav, 93K for $14995 +tax/title. It had to be one of the cleanest 90K+ vehicles I can remember seeing...not a spot of dirt or rust on engine/under carriage. Bought in Denver,CO

Bought my 2008 SR5 V6 with 37K miles on it for $28K, with trade in of my 03 Sport V6 for $8K, I wound up paying $20K out the door.
 
I bought my 08 4Runner a couple months back, Limited 4x4 fully loaded out with every option but Navi, for 18K and has 120K miles. The 4Runner was a one owner and spotless inside and out with brand new Michelins. The 4Runner at time of purchase booked for over 23K still so felt good about the deal. I was mainly looking for 06-09 V8's and def found there being a premium price with them.

And that's where I lucked out.... Bickford Ford is the second largest volume Ford dealership in WA. Their service department is super impressive. My Runner had most fluids replaced and all major maint. up to spec. I couldn't believe how clean the motor was.

But, if the same vehicle was on a Toyota lot, it'd probably have the same services and then obtain Toyota's certified pre-owned status. In any case, I'm happy....

Concerning everyone's replies, I'm now feeling a lot better about my purchase price. I felt good before, but I began to wonder. Now, I'm seeing that yes, you can spend $10-13.... But most likely only for an 03-06. And private party can yield some good finds.

It took a long time to find the perfect 4R. It was hard to resist the urge to settle for something that was less than what I truly wanted. I used CARS.com relentlessly!

Do you prefer the 4th gen over the 5th? Because around here you can get a 2011-2013 4wd with those same miles for that same price.

2 weeks ago I paid 16,500 for my 2006 SR5 V8, 4x4, 86k miles. it has the 17's, heated leather, power sunroof as major options.

Unsure if the timing belt has been changed, is there anyway to tell?

unless there is a sticker under the hood, there is no way to tell.
but, at that mileage, I would bet it hasn't been done, and may be why the PO decided to sell.


edit: you may be able to peak under and see the WP. you would be able to tell if its NEW. that would be a good indicator, but still no guarantee on the belt itself. I don't know anyone that would change the pump at that mileage, and reuse the old belt....but that doesn't mean it cant happen.

Paid 13.5k for my 2005 Sport 4x4 V8 one owner with all service records done at Toyota dealer. This was back in September.

Thanks for the help. I asked the PO if the belt has been changed and it hasn't. Looks like I will begin collecting parts to change it in summer.

I second that. I used cars.com as well.... Gotta get that free Carfax! That's the tricky thing about private party.
