How much did you pay for 15000 mile service?

I took my '04 SR5 V6 to the dealership today to get the 15000 mile service done. The guy charged me $190. The price was originally $156 but he said that it was a little extra for me because my vehicle has a t-type tranny. I checked the service description and it says that they charge you extra only if the transmission service is necessary. The guy included this service BEFORE he even took the vehicle in. Do 4Runners just need this type of attention at this stage or did he trick me?

The standard elements of a 15k service include a 'minor' transmission service, which means they drain the pan and refill it. Unless you specify otherwise, a dealership would include it in the normal service. As for the price, my dealer lists the 15k for $219.95 with an additional $15.00 for the T-type fluid which the new Runners use. The dealer should have a pre-printed scheduled maintenance brochure which lists the various services based on mileage and what they entail. You can also look in the back of the owners manual, it lists the recommended services and intervals.

Wow, what did they do for $308? Lets see with the V8 you don't touch the transmission until you get to 60K miles and only then if you tow. I could see you doing the diff's and transfer case fluid change. No cooling system service, and the oil/filter change should include checking everything that is required in a 30K mile service (my dealers quick lube includes a 21 point inspection). I guess they also rotated and balanced the tires. I wonder what it would of cost if you went in at 29K miles and ask for a oil/filter quick lube ($29) and then had them change the frt./rear diff's and transfer case ($100) and did the rotate and balance ($36), lets throw in an air filter ($30). Looks like $195. The dealers alway screw you on the major interval service packages. Next time price the items that have to be changed/replace individually and then get the quick lube service to cover all of the items that need to be checked. You will save big $$$. Learned this from a Lexus service advisor, plus you are covered on your warranty just keep a copy of the items they say they check on the quick lube.

Pitbull, hiluxsurf's 4Runner is an 03 so he does not have the WS fluid you have: although my trans dip stick has a label on it that says do not change under normal driving conditions

My dealer offers the 15k for 2 something and 30k is twice the price but they change all fluids, except the brake and powersteering and they add BG service stuff, now I wonder if the maintenance service also includes the labor rate or is it just parts and service and added in profit

4Route this is an f-ing travesty. The saddest thing about this is that out of the 2 forums where this was discussed, not one Toyota employee said a damn thing. I have a hard time believing that not one employee is on either of these sites.

Anyway, good luck on Monday. My approach would be a combination of well-organized and sinister, but if that didn't work, I would go the EDGE route (see uterus comment @ yotatech)!!

ohhh, that uterus comment was one of the funniest things i'd heard in awhile as far as threats go.

you know what? i know for a fact there is someone over at yotatech who works at the very dealer that did this shit to me ... in fact, he recommended them to me and is the parts guy there!!

DAMN!! sorry to read about that 4route I would say call the service manager right away! and explain everything. ESPECIALLY how the tech there said for you to do stuff yourself! don't even bother dealing with the service advisor! be polite but firm with the service manager. they usually do their best to work with customers. they wronged you big time!

i don't see how they can justify $440 for a 15k service with a vehicle with under 5k miles, as most of the 15k service involves "inspecting" things....and looks like they didnt do much but charge you for stuff they didnt even do/replace
i just had my '02 in for its 15k and was $160.

and NO WAY should it take 36 hours for you to get your truck back...and to top it off you had to call them?!?! really gives meaning to the word "stealers"
I hope they straighten it out for you: speak directly to the service manager!

Yes I am sorry because I wrote the other comment before I knew you were a girl (did not want to read 6 pages of posts, went by what you said in your first post). I know that doesn't sound good to give you a pass for being a girl but I have found that when it comes to cars/buying/servicing them girls get screwed a lot. I'm sure I would get screwed if I tried to decorate a house or plan a wedding. Glad you are a smart girl and you are using these sites to learn, so you don't get screwed in the future. Sorry if this post is not PC, since I'm a guy I wouldn't know PC if it hit me over the head. Again good luck and keep learning and looking for advise.

Well, it's not even that I was a girl ... I think since it was the first maintenance check I'd had, I had nothing to go by as far as price or time it would take. I did my best when I was there ... I made a list of things for them to do, and then went over that list when I picked my truck up. I gave them a hard time for not having done ANYTHING I asked them to, but other than those few things I had specified, I wasn't sure at that time what else they had screwed me on.

If I knew what I know now about the general cost for the 15k service, and the amount of time such a service would usually take, you bet your ass I would not have left that place until they rectified the situation. Unfortunately, I didn't have this info until I started getting suspicious and posted on yotatech for some help.

I didn't think they'd screw me over because I made it very clear when I took my truck in that I knew a lot about it (the truck), and that I knew what I was talking about, and what I expected them to do. The 15k service, on the other hand, was something I had not had experience with, and was just going by what the manual said they'd perform (which he signed off on, and yet I have proof that they didn't do those things).

So anyway, I just wanted some help, knowing whether I had a reason to go back in upset or not. Now that I know, I will go back in there and not leave until they fix it. I just needed to be sure, because I had no concrete idea.

I hate confrontation, but I still would not have left there if I knew all that they had done/not done.

4Route - Keep us posted on your progress here please. I don't have an account at Yotatech so I don't really check there. I think you have a legitimate case. If they give you any guff about paying for it when you did, tell them the service guy was practically throwing you out of the dealership since he was trying to leave.

I haven't done my 15K service as I only have about 7400 miles. I did a 55k prepaid maintenance program so I didn't pull out my wallet for the 5k service. At my 10k service I'll have the look into the Sulfur TSB as well as lube up my moon roof.

No moral support. The 6 pages at Yotatech are plenty :

Just print them out and keep them in your breast pocket (near your heart)

You had 6 pages of great advise. I don't think I could add anything that wasn't already covered in that thread. Go in there and state your case to the Service Manager or CSR and they should fix there mistakes. If that doesn't work, get the Toyota 1-800 number and go from there.

haha, that's true, thanks! i'll definitely print them out, but i think they'll print out as about 30 pages. so i may look awfully deformed carrying them all next to my heart. but then again, maybe they'll think i have a heart condition - heart burstingout-er-itis.



anyway, i will go in and do my best. then i'll come out to my truck afterwards, drive away, stop along the road somewhere and burst into tears. but, at least i'll have gone and done it!
