How much did you pay for your 03?

gaslight:

If you're thinking about getting the green you better decide quick because the green and the red are both being discontinued in next years line up :( Sad to say but it's true from what I was told.

good thing I got the green one! :D I'll be that much more unique! woo hoo!!

good times. I really think that green is a sweet color. My wife loves that green. It a bit of a toss up for me. Will have to find out if I can get either one with the options that I want.

Is this a good price?

Dealer is asking $28,000 plus tax and fees

sounds like a good price but are they screwing you on your trade in, if you have one? They will try to recoup the money difference somewhere.

Bought a white SR-5 Sport edition, with Gulf coast package. Sticker was ~$28,900, $30,093 with the Gulf package. Package included running boards, mats, rear cargo shelf, auto dimming rearview mirror, 6 year full replacement cost on tires, 1-mile protection, seat/carpet protection, pin-stripes, first aid, kit, etc., etc.

I paid $30,700 out the door. This included a $1500 hit on my trade-in and TTL (6.25% sales tax in TX). If I wouldn't have been upside down with the trade-in, it would have boiled down to $500 over dealer invoice, which he showed me. Also, he gave me $500 less than what KBB recommended my trade-in was worth.

All in all, had I wanted to take my time and really drive a hard bargain I might have been able to come out about a grand better, but the hassle just wasn't worth it to me. I'm going to Vegas next Saturday and wanted to take my new wheels. :-)

Jack,

Your point about the hassle is an excellent one. You probably could have done better, but that definitely takes time (days/weeks). Congrats on the new purchase and enjoy your new 4Runner!!

You need to be patient or your just flusing your hard earned money down the drain. The dealer told me yesterday that most people buy a car within a week. Just like impulse buying. Usually waiting till the last minute before their current car dies to go buy a new one then they are desperate. Hey that is what the stealers want. You need to walk away sometimes and think about the deal.
I walked away yesterday. I only wanted a quote for my car and the price of a 03 4runner. They were gonna give me $6600 for my 1998 Camry with 48800 mile and great condition. I bought it from them 2 yrs ago with 23k miles. So you telling me after 2 yrs and 25k miles of use my Camry is worth half what I paid for it? I don't think so Jerky. He told me he would try to get a better price for it and call me Monday. I didn't even try to counter on the 4Runner yet. Working on one car at a time. I'm not in a rush. The car is in great shape so I don't have to rush. I also plan on going to another dealer next weekend.
