How much did you pay for your 3rd gen?

Just picked mine up about a week ago. 97 SR5, paid $2600 with 123,000. good amount of stuff needed to be repaired, but so far it only cost me about $60 and I got the 4x4 repaired, rear window motor wires were repaired, defroster was repaired, and window switch was replaced.

I straight traded for mine. I got it in early 2013 with only 112,000 miles on it. I traded my 02 Solara for the 02 4Runner. T4r had 15,000 less miles and is a 4x4. Talk about a deal

I bought my 02 Sport about a year and a half ago. I paid $9,000.00 and bought it from a Toyota dealer.
When I bought it, my truck had 84,000 original miles and was a one owner truck bought new and serviced at that dealership. The dealer had all service records plus a carfax and they had just replaced the water pump and timing belt.
I live very close to my job (about 8 miles) so I don't log a bunch of miles. I just turned 95,000 miles and the truck still drives like new. I love this truck and with regular maintenance I fully expect to get 300K miles out of it.
When I bought it, my truck had 84,000 original miles and was a one owner truck bought new and serviced at that dealership. The dealer had all service records plus a carfax and they had just replaced the water pump and timing belt.

2001 4wd T4R SR5 - I bought mine about this time last year, paid $9k for it, one owner out of Scottsdale clean Carfax. 140k miles very clean just minor scratches. Looked for months to find a clean one.
Installed Toytec Ultimate Kit, removed running boards, changed out wheels and tires for FJ TRD Trail Team SE wheels with Goodyear Duratracs, Rola rack with extension.
Plate bumpers next, TRD supercharger on the wishlist!

I paid $850 for mine a month ago, 255k loaded 97 sr5, clean and rust free.
March 2010 - paid $5800 for my '99 Highlander e-locker manual trans, it had 155K on it and was as clean as a whistle inside and out.
It was supposed to be $6K, but the CEl came on at the last second and the seller knocked off $200. That just ended up being a fouled MAF from an over oiled K&N air filter. And it needed some tires, had some fairly well worn and small (245/70/16) Geolanders.

Bought a '96 a few weeks ago. $3800 - private party. The run-down is as follows:
4X4 3.4 Auto 260K miles
Carfax tells me that it has never been in a serious accident
I am the 4th owner - the last guy owned it for about 8 years
Large stack of maintenance receipts dating back to the original owner. Some of the major items were done proactively (radiator comes to mind). Very strong general maintenance history. Found exactly one missed oil change window (every 3K plus or minus 250 miles - and the one "missing" receipt appeared to be just that in that the next receipt in line showed the last one being done about 3K earlier)
Paint and Body - White - paint 5 of 10 - some minor metal issues (if you look carefully you can see a wrinkle in the hood - looks like someone sat on it and then popped it back out... Minor ding on the corner of the rear bumper
No noticeable rust
Tires 7:10 - wheels are the 17" units from an '05 4Runner...
Leather is 4/10 - no MAJOR rips or issues - but it has a lot of seat time on it...
Runs strong, no codes, shifts clean, 4X4 works nicely... Shudder in the right front when I bought it (turned out to be a badly out of balance tire)
ETC appears to work well...
No major leaks - although one of the inner CV boots is dead.
I had been shopping in the Phoenix area for about 3 months. Had driven a few others and this one runs the strongest. The only other one that I had thought about buying was slightly cleaner - but somewhat weaker - and the seller wanted $5K for it with about 210K miles. I ODB-II'd it and found an under-performing catalytic converter (would not have passed emissions) and a pending transmission failure code. The seller would not budge on his price - and said he would drop the price in a week - but that he was going to give it a chance to sell at his price. It sold later that day - apparently for full price. This one had an asking price of $4300. KBB in "excellent" condition was $3800. I offered $3500 - he countered at $3800 - I took it. We were both happy.
Did I pay "too much" - well - KBB would say so - because it certainly does not meet their definition of "excellent condition." However - given that I had been watching adds almost daily for about 3 months - and had not found anything under $4K that did not have really significant flaws... I'm pretty happy.
I am writing this about three weeks post-purchase and am still pleased with the car and the price. The biggest "surprise" was that in the huge pile of receipts there was not one for a timing belt change. I'll do some stuff myself (I did the Tundra brake upgrade last weekend and the CV axle is going in this weekend in my garage) but that was one that I did not have the time or energy to do. Took it to a friend who owns a shop - and had him put in a Toyota belt, pully set, water pump, and thermostat. I told him about the big stack of receipts and none for a timing belt and he laughed it off. When I picked it up me met me with the old belt. "You were right to stay out of it until you got this done! I cant be sure - but I think this thing might be the original!" :jaw: I guess the water pump was "crusty" - had been seeping just a tiny bit - for a very long time... also potentially the original.

Bought a 2001, 4X4, SR5 with 34K miles in 2003 for $21K.
A new one (2003) would have cost me around 28K.
I have put 143K miles of adventures and fun in 11 years.
Considered trading it in a couple of years ago to get a newer model and then found this site. Keeping it until it dies.

Clean clean clean with TB/WP maintenance done @ 100k miles.
Everything works, but the rear window track needs to be looked at, kinda wobbles as it goes up and down lol

$4K and traded in my dying '01 Blazer for a 2001 4wd SR5 112k miles in 2012. Poor cosmetic condition, but I've fixed that all up for less than $500.

1997 sr5 4x4 w/ the v6 and 5-speed // 217,000 on the clock. Rust free but a "mom car" (little to no maintenance and the interior will always smell like cigs and something a child spilt on the floor years ago). Didn't realize how bad maintenance was until after I purchased it and started tearing into the engine a bit.
I made an even trade for my Subaru Forester. I think I could have sold the Forester for $1800-$2200, so I paid somewhere in that range.

Wow, where are all the 100k junkyard 3rd gens bought for $1100 that I keep hearing about during engine/tranny swaps? 
But seriously, these prices are on par with what I am seeing on ebay/Clist/auctions.
I bought my 97 Limited 2wd with 130k for $5000, that was in 2004 AND with a "family discount." And a I just came across a 2001 Limited 2wd with 150k for sale around $3000.
The '01 is suffering from some kind of electronics issue that I haven't found on the forums quite yet and so I may not pull the trigger on that one. VSC/TRAC/CEL are on all the time. Anybody seen this before? Thread links?
