How much did you pay for your 3rd gen?

Wow, where are all the 100k junkyard 3rd gens bought for $1100 that I keep hearing about during engine/tranny swaps? But seriously, these prices are on par with what I am seeing on ebay/Clist/auctions.

I bought my 97 Limited 2wd with 130k for $5000, that was in 2004 AND with a "family discount." And a I just came across a 2001 Limited 2wd with 150k for sale around $3000.

The '01 is suffering from some kind of electronics issue that I haven't found on the forums quite yet and so I may not pull the trigger on that one. VSC/TRAC/CEL are on all the time. Anybody seen this before? Thread links?

I remember seeing this issue come up a couple months ago. I believe it is an issue with the 4WD system (sensors or what not tied to the ECU?) that causes the VSC/TRAC/CEL to pop up.

There was also a guy looking at a Runner a few weeks ago on here with the same issue with a '00 for like $5,500 from a dealer...... the consensus was to stay away from it, especially at that price.

Bought brand new for about $31,100.00 including all fees, sales tax, etc.

It still runs and looks pretty much the same as it did the day I drove it off the lot.

I have to admit that trying to buy a 4runner has been interesting to say the least. The supply (at least here) is high but the prices and conditions vary GREATLY. Interesting to see with a vehicle with such a high resale.

Looking a Tacos it appears even worse. Who in the world would pay $20k+ for a pickup with 150k+ miles on it?

I wanted a taco in the worst way but could not justify the price and millage. I settled into an 02 4runner sr5, leather seats, with 112k for 10g from a dealer 2 months ago.

1 owner, was an old guy who drove it back and forth from ILL and FL 8500 miles a year . He did the oil changes before 3k every time and at 110k had all the fluids flushed. No rust and is in amazing condition minus the drivers seat plastic falling off (power seat switch area) but that's an easy fix.

I feel as though I got a decent deal but if I where to do it all over again I would probably get one with higher miles and drop some money on lifting, tires etc. I never knew these 4runners were so reliable.

Yeah I've got an '01 and VSC lights are always on. They still work, but the lights never go off

Bought my 97 SR5 with Pioneer SatNav, new tires, new AC, 149K miles for $4400 about a month ago. It needed a new timing belt and water pump right off the bat (belt was slapping shroud) which was $800 so I'll call it $5200.

Purchased 9/15/14 from an Acura dealership for $6500 + dealer fees + sales tax. Truck is clean with no rust.

Additional spend: ~$2,000 (timing belt, water pump, Nitto terra grappler tires, diff fuilds, brake fluid, new radiator, rear diff mod, seat covers, valve cover gaskets, oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs, and tranny fluid)

I found the same thing... I wanted a full 4 door Tacoma... was astounded at the price of those guys - even with VERY high mileage.

I looked for three months - watching craigslist as well as a few other sources. I can't remember seeing more than a few that were under $3500 - and when they were they had serious issues. There was one out there for a few weeks advertized as having a blown head gasket... if memory serves they started it at $3900 and dropped the price a couple hundred a week. It disappeared after the ad went to $3400... There was nothing special about this vehicle. It had 200K plus on it - looked generally stock and used... I have to assume it sold in the $3K range... Craziness...

98 SR5 121,000 miles. They were asking $4500 and I had them down to 4K when the CEL came on. BOOM HEADSHOT! Ended up at $3600. It turned out to be a bad injector. Replaced that and the Tps and all is well. Body is pristine and we don't use road salt in Oregon so no rust to speak of.

They'd replaced the tires, brakes, water pump and timing belt within the last 5-6k.

Picked up a 97 limited sunroof e/locker. gold pack with 278k a couple of months ago for $700. No rust, dented pas fender and small dent on rear hatch, needed aliitle in the tranny/trans case area

It IS weird... Spent ONE afternoon looking for a gen 3 4Runner at the local stealerships... Found none. Did find a mid 2000's FJ with 136K on the clock, some minor body damage and well worn interior - for right at 50% the price of the 2015 model sitting there on the show-room floor... WHAT!

I figure that unless I roll mine or set fire to it - it is pretty-much bottomed out in price. I wouldn't be surprised if my kids make money on it after I die... LOL...

I bought my 2000 limited with elocker and 111k miles for $4500 today. One owner and very clean. It needs a timing belt/water pump, front diff switch, and the drivers seatpower needs to be fixed but I think it was a steal.

I bought my bone stock 2000 sr5 4x4 with 165k miles for $3000 3 years ago. It was a Florida truck it's whole life before it was brought here to Md. It needed a new radiator due to a small leak when i purchased it. A week after i purchased it i replaced all the maintance items, Tbelt, w.p. ect... A pic from when i 1st purchased it and a more recent pic. I love this truck!

2002 Purchased a month ago for $5,400

I am the proud owner of a 2002 SR5, Silver, 2 owners before me. Has just over 163k miles on it and I just had the Water pump and timing belt done! Hard to believe it had never been done before this!

This is a very clean and amazing truck! I took her in last week to have a Flowmaster DeltaFlow muffler installed! Now, the Prius' are running scared!
Also, there is a Westin push bar on the front...I call it my Prius Pulverizer!
Don't mess with my "Ramona"! $5,400 WELL SPENT!!!
