How much did you pay for your 3rd gen?

5000 for 2002 Sports edition with 172k miles. Within a week of owning it the 02 sensors went lol... Sucked a lot but I'm happy now. So far put in o2 sensors, changed oil to synthetic, did a coolant flush, timing belt change, all belts changed, water pump, and remote starter installed. It has a couple dents and I believe everything was OEM(I mean the plugs were and they were pounded down like an unwanted dog) hence plugs changed too obviously....

More that I should have, but it was worth it. $4,100 for my '97 SR5 automatic with something around 220,000 miles on her and well taken care of. 5(full sized spare) new tires for the lift put on her. A fat folder of all the maintenance they did on her was a selling point for me too. Never taken offroading or mudding before I got a hold of her either.

Back in a 3rd Gen just recently. I had a 98 SR5 in Anthracite Metallic that was a 5 speed manual. I loved it but sadly had to part with it in 2006 due to increasing gas prices and some other financial issues. Purchased that one with 50k miles in 2002 for $21,5. Several subarus in between. I always regretted getting rid of the 98.

Just recently picked up a 2002 Limited Dorado Gold with 149k miles for $6,9. It's got the infamous bent antenna and the typical land of salt rust. My local garage says with no cares in the world and not taking care of it at all I've got at least 2 years before I've got a real rust issue. I immediately got an undercoating done with that new Fluid Film stuff that's out there. Seemed to work good. Brakes were all new on it as well as windshield when purchased. Separate transmission cooler purchased and scheduled to be installed.

Love being back. I can see myself seeking out another one as soon as this one dies. This time I'll go further to get it to avoid rust.

I used to be a mechanic at a Toyota dealership here in town for a number of years. We had a customer come in one day with a white 1997 SR5 with a busted upper ball joint in the left front. The customer, for whatever reason, decided to sell the dealership the 4Runner and buy a new car from them.

So there sat a 1997 V6 4WD, completely stock, immaculate condition with 113K on the clock and the only thing wrong was a ball joint. Even that wasn't that bad as it literally just looked like it fell out, not even broken. Convinced the dealership to let me buy it as it sat so they didn't have to worry about putting the money into it themselves to fix it.

$750 later I had myself a 'new' vehicle. Which was great timing since my current car at the time was totaled in a parking lot by a drunk chick in an early 90's Chevy truck.

It now has 205K on it and I just replaced the timing belt/water pump and plugs myself. Has a couple things that need attention but for using it to commute about an hour each way (~65 miles) everyday for work she has done amazingly well.

2000 Limited- multimode t case, e-locker stock everything. 158000 miles- $1500. Was from a buddy who was very particular in his maintenance- all maintenance receipts saved. only issue is driver side seat has small tear in the leather. I just got lucky i guess

I paid $400 for mine with a broken ball joint back in 2011. I bought the ball joint for $50 gave the guy his 400 bucks fixed it where it sat and drove it home, with the a/c working great:hat:
