Just purchased my very first 4x4 and it's a '97 T4R Limited.

175k miles.
OME 3" Suspension lift
33" tires.

Frame is solid as is pretty much the entire undercarriage.

Previous owner kept up with maintenance and is fairly knowledgeable on these rig.

The sale is still pending a mechanical safety inspection, but I should have her in my driveway by next weekend.

Paid 4,500$.

It's got a couple of bad rust spots (Rear driver's side wheel well, top of tailgate at the washer fluid nozzle are the 2 worst spots I've seen).

Purrs like a kitten though and drives real nice.

Lower ball joints have been replaced and beefed up.
Rear axle seals and bearings were replaced last year.
Timing Belt and water pump were last done about 100k miles ago, so I'll be looking at doing those soon.

There are a few other things, but considering the age and mileage of this rig, it was very well taken care of and I foresee it being reliable and fun for me for a solid handful of years.

I should note that this isn't our main vehicle/DD. It's really a toy for me and a second practical vehicle.

Update on how it looks now (the original was an old picture form when the PO first lifted it).

I had the tires flipped so the white lettering is on the outside.

I've since found out that the LBJ's have not been beefed up, they are just Moog LBJ's and OTE's for a Tundra (which is the same P/N as 4Runners). It's got new front brakes though (they were needed to pass Safety Certification).

The LBJ's have about 12K miles on them now, so I'll be inspecting them regularly as I put together funds to swap out to OEM (along with new OTE/ITE, Steering rack and Sway Bar Bushings as well as UBJ's.). That should give me peace of mind for as long as I own this truck.


Naturally, there's a bunch of other stuff I want to do to it, but I'll chip away at it as time goes on.

Loving it so far and I think it was totally worth the $4,500 I paid for it.

I traded straight across for my 99 4runner Limited with rear locker. has 225K on the body but the engine was rebuilt with brand new block. Engine has 25k on it suspension bushings and struts were all replaced 20k ago. He had it posted for 6500 my WRX was worth a little more then that id say about 7500 but im super happy to be back in a 4runner.

2002 SR5 auto in millenium silver with cloth interior. Super clean. No rust. 179K miles for $7K. As far as deals go, could be better, could be worse. These 4Runners don't often go much below that around here.

1997 SR5 with 174k for $3300. good frame. rust on skid plates. Needed valve cover gaskets and inner tie rod end for inspection. no pics yet, its covered in filthy road grime and snow.

Just picked up a 2002 Sport Edition 4wd w/152k. Paid $7900. Probably a little high, but very good price for the area/region that I live in-these things don't last more than 1-2 days on Craigslist here. In addition, the previous owner, [MENTION=82424]Boiseflyfisher[/MENTION] on this forum, added a bunch of tasteful items: new radiator, aux trans cooler, Yakima roof rack, Wet Okole seat covers, front & rear Weathertechs, painted 5 stars, and TBelt & WPump already completed. Been searching for a Sport for a while so I definitely

couldn't pass up the opportunity... The 4th gen Sport is now FOR SALE!!!

I bought this 2001 Sr5 2wd power windows cloth interior. , 77,000 miles on it with brandnew tires for 10k( grandmas car).It does have little rust underneath on skid plate :noidea:

p.s. I dont feel so bad reading this thread , I bought it for it's longevity .

That thing is about 6k MAX due to the 2wd. I've seen 4x4s with similar miles go for 8k here.

hes holding it for me and I was just wondering your guys opinion on it.I think it would definitely be a solid truck for at least 150k more miles as long as i keep up with it.

It will still be a solid truck no doubt, but the 2WD makes the price lower. If it was 4WD I would say the price is decent, but since it's only 2WD it should be a little lower.

when my folks picked it up back in 99.. it only had 6 miles on it.. and with everything said and done.. it was almost $40k for it..

I paid $4500 for my 2000 SR5 Sport, 4wd, no locker, with 147,000miles, in June of 2014.

Timing belt and other goodies were done at 142,000.

I am happy with the deal I got!

I got mine for $3800 with 120K miles I just hope is true 99 4Runner V6 4x4 sport seats were destroyed( now has some used and electric ones) tires didn't have any meat, had to replace front Rotors and pads drive very solid and strong I'm sooooo Happy

bought mine this past sunday for $3500. it's an '01 SR5 4x4 w/ 145k miles and just needs tires soon and rear brakes, everything else seems good so far.
