98 Limited, $1,600
A couple weeks ago I found a 98 Limited with E-Locker, 273k miles for $1600.
That's so cheap I expect to find some major problem lurking, but so far so good: Engine & transmission seem ok and 4wd works. The known problems:
1. Body rust (just spots so far and I'm not that concerned for the price)
2. Pass side e-brake bell crank is gone, cross-axle cable is cut.
3. Rear O2 sensor is unhappy and throwing a P0141/CEL.
4. Pass side fog light housing is deteriorated and only works when it's in the mood.
5. The factory radio/cd wont accept cd's - just spits them right back out.
She needs some rehab, but it'll be a fun weekend project truck for my teenagers to learn on and go camping in. They're both too young to drive legally but they might slip behind the wheel out in the boonies once in a while, and that keeps them motivated.
As soon as it gets warmer I'll start on her. The priority list is:
1. Fluid changes (radiator done, transmission flush is next, then diffs & transfer)
2. Parking brake fix (I found the bellcrank parts and cable online, just need to open the drums and see how bad the rest looks)
3. Replace the radiator, just in case, but no plans for a trans cooler - no mountains here, won't be towing very often.
4. LBJs
5. New head unit (my kids think radio is torture and want bluetooth)
6. The front bumper is pretty rusty and the lower valance is cracked, and both need to be solid for...
7. Replace the iffy fog lights with spiffy LEDs.
I'm trying to keep to about $200/mo in work and prioritize safety/longevity jobs first in case I decide to sell it later.
