How much did you pay for your 3rd gen?

Ha! Thanks! I'm up in Mill Valley area, so if you ever need your little Ferrari fix, you know where to find me!

Appreciate the feedback on the T4R though. I'll keep looking until I see something "reasonable"!
 
I just bought mine a week ago for $2800. It's a 2000 SR5 w/224000 miles. Other than the frame needs a little bit of work, it's actually in pretty good condition.
 
In December 2021 we bought a clean, well-maintained 2001 Limited with 113,000 miles for $8,500. Thought this was a crazy price, about $3,000 high, but he had three cash buyers lined up behind me. Locally now the prices are even higher.

It needed some frame repair (inside section near the fuel tank) but we had that welded. Other than new winter tires, new fuel cap, and new wiper blades we’ve just been driving it.
 
When i drove it off the Lot brand new back in 97'?
I think it was $30k? it was a long time ago... I'll have to find the receipt.. but in the meantime.. i was a charter member of the "Book of the Month Club"

Bought my 2000 4runner in December for 8k. Black sr5 one owner with 133k on the clock. I traded in my green 99 that I bought for 6k in June of ’20. I think he gave me 4800 for trade in?

Our 2WD SR5 was around 30k - if it was 4WD it was likely more like $35k. Maybe there were some price jumps between '97 and '99 though, with Japanese exchange rate craziness in the 90's...

97 4 runner

I purchased my 97 sr4 2 years ago for 2100. It had 171,000 with minimal rust brand new tires and solid frame. Ive done the brakes, alternator, starter, and radiator. Love it and trying to build it up more!
 
$2150 had to put in a new fuel pump, starter (although we probably didn’t need a new one, it hadn’t been replaced in a while) that we thought we needed at first, some fuses and miscellaneous. It’s got about 215k miles and runs great overall. No major rust just some electrical issues right now. Overall got a great deal. 1999 SR5 4x4

I paid six. I think I overpaid I'm realizing after reading a lot that most trucks need the same things done once you've bought it -- BUT at least it's mine and I've begun...
 
I paid $3500 for my '98 4x4 SR5 about a month ago. It was poorly maintained but seems to run well. I'm hoping with some long overdue maintenance it will make a good first vehicle for my son.

This sums me up too. I feel like I overpaid ($8k for a 2002 4WD SR5 sport in black with 167k back in Nov 2021) but at least now I've got the truck.

I too realize that unless all maintenance (and I mean all of it) was done right before I bought it I'd likely do the same things. I'm going through every hose, bearing, bushing and gasket though. Everything will be new OEM toyota.

I want the truck to last another 150k miles. It will likely be a truck for my son.

I paid $6K for my 2WD SR5 Sport back in 2011. I did all the major maintenance and expected the same when I bought my 4WD for $8K in January of this year (2022) - both trucks in my sig.

Even if the previous owner says they kept up with all "required service" and has records, just like "full coverage insurance" those things mean different things to different people. Plan on spending $3K on a used 20-yo truck.

I plan on selling the 2WD, soon, and plan on driving the 4WD to 400K and beyond.

These trucks are well worth the investment: buying good bones and re-investing in maintenance and mods.

I paid $1,800 two years ago. Its a 1998 limited with 4WD. It had 221k miles on it. I had the timing belt done, I’ve replaced rear shocks and coils, as well as the frame perch for them since they rotted out and broke, front suspension as well. Also wheels from a 5th gen.

Yep. Just because it runs well and no Check Engine doesn't mean it doesn't need anything. I'm trying to get in front of all of it, I don't want to drive cross country and be stuck for something basic. "Buy once, cry once".

Yes, it will be $3k pretty easy in parts alone for all Toyota OEM. Some of it is overkill but thats ok. Cheaper than a car payment long term.
