how much does my luggage rack hold?

I'm a paint contractor and want to know how big of an alum ladder/s I can carry? The rack seems super strong on my '04

Toyota says something like 100 lbs max, which imo is ridiculous.

Pretty sure its 110 for the sr5/limited rack and 120 or 130 for the sport edition tube rack.

Manual says 120lbs and the reason given for not exceeding it is risk of seat belt tensioners or curtain airbags triggering.

I will look into that, because it sounds odd to me, I think they are being too conservative with the weight and reasoning... There are guys running a lot of weight on their roof and they haven't had issues with either...

Yeah, I've exceeded that many times with a static load, but I'd probably try to follow it reasonably closely for any kind of traveling. Interested to hear anything you find out, though.

interesting.... Looking at the Werner ladder site a 24' ladder is around 30lbs. That would mean I could carry 3 ladders on that rack! That is insane ha..

On another note I've thought about getting a Yakima/Thule rack to keep the ladders raised up more off the roof (to keep it in good shape). Can anyone recommend which rack was best suited?
