How much does your 3rd gen weigh?

So...I am moving this week and got an "unloaded" weight of my 99 4Runner, 5spd, 4x4 with bumpers/skids/roof rack/sliders and 285s w/full sized spare as the most heavyweight items.

I have seen stock curb weights around 3800lbs but obviously this will vary a bit.

5,190lbs! Only thing that was in the car the was a couple car seats and my rear drawer/tools...so much maybe more fair to say 5,090lbs...still pretty heavy.

Anyone else know their weight?

If you subtract the armor. And simply have 4-5 full grown adults roughly 200lbs average. It's no different. What can you do? Go all alumninum ? I was worried about my truck being heavy to. But I'm sure the engine can handle it just fine. Maybe re gearing to PROPER gears will reduce a lot of stress on drivetrain.

I'm not complaining, just observing...yes re-gearing to 4:88s and adding a s/c made a difference. We have a built 80 series as well...curious to see what it weighs tomorrow!

Mine was 5,000lbs on the dot with me in it, before my rear bumper and 33's. Now I've added that and a little more recovery gear so I'd guess with me in it 5,200 with my normal gear I always carry. Probably 4,900-4,950 without me and and my normal gear.

4240 empty with me prior to all weight adding mods; skids, bumpers, stereo, winch, locker. It did however, have 33's and crappy spacer lift at that time.

I'm a 3rz, 5-speed, cloth interior, no sunroof. I should go back and drop off scrap metal to get the weight after all the mods.

4500 pounds

1998 V6 5 Speed 4WD

235/85R16 BFG Kos

Armor- 3/16" Savage Off-road front skid plate, Savage Off-road kickout sliders, Lotus RCAM skids

Had all my every day carry tools, parts, misc gear in the back and me in it.

I'm probably about 100 pounds more now with my sleeping platform and additional recovery gear/ jack.

Haha, the LC's aren't called pigs for nothing. My 62 weighs #3675 on the rear axle alone! My buddy weighed his 80 with ARB bumpers, side bars and full length rack, and it came in at #6940. Same guy with his 1st gen loaded for the trail was #4800.

I haven't officially weighed my 62, because I tow it behind my RV and if a cop ever asks me I want to look him in the eye and say I don't actually know.

Do you guys think it's to much for engine and drivetrain?
Factory GVWR is 5250. That has more to do with the suspension than the drivetrain, as it is also rated to tow 5k lbs, which is more of a stress on the drivetrain than suspension. So, keep everything in good shape, make sure the suspension is uprated for the weight and don't worry about it.

Good info guys. Mines is fully armored with bumpers, skids and rock slider. Just recently added a rear storage box. Everything else is tip top. Icon suspension. So I think I'm good

Another question. How much does it affect in off roading situations

Doesnt really make a difference. it actually helps if a lot of the weight is down low, because it lowers the center of gravity. skids and sliders probably lower the CoG a bit.

I beg to differ, weight make a HUGE difference off roading, it changes floatation on sand, it changes body roll, it changes tire deflection, spring sag(or compression) and of course the center of gravity.

yes, but both very heavy and very light vehicles can both be successful off-road. a heavier vehicle just needs special consideration when off-roading in certain conditions, like suspension and tire psi.

I weighted in at 5280 on the truck scales at the refinery. Full tank of fuel, myself and my normal gear. Seems a bit heavy, so I want to head over to the dump and compare.

True....but you're generally going to require a lot more engine and much stouter drivetrain to handle all that extra mass.

After finding out how much a stock 3rd Gen actually weighs....I definitely should have gone with 1tons instead of the Tundra rear and FJ80 front axles even if they are 300M. I'm just hoping I don't break too often with the 37s.
