How much Mileage did you lose when switching to Duratracs?

I really like the Duratracs and am thinking of getting them. My only concern is that in the 18" size they only come in 275/65/18 which are 11 pounds heavier per tire than what I am running now. That along with greater rolling resistance has me wondering how much gas mileage I'll actually lose. Can anyone who has been running these tires for a while give me some objective information on this?

I've put about 5k miles on my 275/65/18 duratracs, these coupled with a 3/2 lift I've gone from something like 20/17 to about 18/15 on my v8.

I went from 265/70/16 Bridgestone Dueller HL's to 265/75/16 Duratracs, so not only heavier, but changed the overall gearing. I'd say after a few tanks of city, highway, and mixed driving I'd say it's about a wash as far as mileage goes. City may have taken a small hit due to the extra weight you need to get moving (a mpg at worst, and I track every tank), but the taller gearing may have actually helped highway driving.

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the duratracs. I deffinitely like the overall look and sounds like I will like the performance better as well. The only things holding me back are the price which is about 400 more than the hankooks and the fact that if I get the skinnier hankooks the MPG will probably be about 3mpg better than the duratracs. Decisions decisions

Sounds like you made up your mind but here is what I've seen. MPG numbers were calculated manually.

Bridgestone Revos
P265/70/17
Load Range C
MPG: 17 - 18 mixed avg (30% city/70% hwy)
Mileage: 45K

Goodyear Duratracs
285/70/17 LT
Load Range D
MPG: 15 - 16 mixed avg** (20% city/80% hwy with mountain pass driving)
Mileage: 7k

**Please note i put these on at the end of Nov 2010 so the number for the duratracs might be impacted by winter gas.

Factors that also affect mpg consistent with both tires:
Roof rack w/ lights (wind resistance)
3" lift (wind resistance)
Recovery/survival gear (additional weight)

Factors that also affect mpg that were added after Duratracs were installed:
2 Spares (285 in the trunk, 265/70 underneath) (additional weight)
Snowboard rack mounted higher/snowboard and skis (wind resistance)

Thanks for the info guys. I'm hoping I can stay around 16mpg avg with mostly highway driving. I went ahead and ordered the duratracs in 275/65/18. They should be here on Friday.

Just filled up today. Light didn't go on yet but I was pretty much on "E". After filling up and crunching numbers I avg 12.4 mpg.

This is promising. Although you have the v6 you also have the roof rack and lights as well as tires that are slightly taller and 3 pounds heavier for each tire. it's looking like I may just be able to stay in that 16mpg mixed range

Quick note. I picked up a 1 year membership to treadlightly for 25 bucks. This will give me a $100 mail in rebate to goodyear for these tires. There was also a $40 mail in rebate already with the tires but not sure if I can take advantage of that or not in conjunction with the other rebate. If not it will all equal out to a $35 dollar additional savings with the treadlightly membership. If I can get them both it will be a $75 savings which will have the tires to my doorstep for ~$950

man the guy from tread depot never gave me tracking info and he said they would ship today.... I can get them for 930 from 4 wheel parts if I can get it canceled.

Tires should be on this evening. Can't wait to see the truck. One good thing is that the in dash mpg gauge should be closer to being accurate now that the tires are a little more than 5% bigger.
