How much rust is too much rust?

Hello I'm looking at buying a 2015 Toyota 4runner trail premium. I live in the rust belt was wondering what everybody thought about the undercarriage. Thank you!

Pelle328: doesn't look bad at all. BUT, As has been stated in this thread, take a welding hammer and go up and down the frame rails, especially bottom of frame rail and see if any soft spots, then, how extensive are they.
And use your judgement from there.
No soft spots, then go for it!

seems like every dealer's idea of 'it's just surface rust' is far more optimistic than reality. mine was the same. i'm dealing with it and hoping it flies for several more years since it runs great right now.
