How much stuff have you carried on your roof/Megawarrior basket?

Just bought a Yakima Megawarrior for snowboarding this year, and I was just curious to see what people have thrown up on their roofs. I looked far and wide on here to find out and it was pretty inconclusive. Apparently, the roof rack is designed to hold 120-150 lbs. I don't plan on going over that at all for snowboarding, but just curious to see what anyone has put up top weight-wise.

Also, I found my rack used (I got lucky there, mint condition!), and it has the extension in it. I'd like to keep the extension in for right now, because the snowboards fit right in, and I won't have any overhang. The only problem is that the front of the basket is over the sunroof. Has anyone on here run the Megawarrior with extension and had any issues? I'm really only concerned about intense wind noise with the basket over my head. Once the season ends, I'll shrink it back down and put my Pelican case up there with my tools. Thanks for any input!

I haven't had a lot of weight but figured I'd post it anyway, I've had 2 ~30lb bikes, 2 camping chairs, a 48 qt. cooler filled with ice/drinks/some food, & a gallon of fuel. Thats not that much but that's the most I've had up there. I think the weight of the basket is about 44 lbs and the factory rack holds 120, so that means the capacity should be somewhere around only 75 lbs.

I don't know about the extension, but I also want to know. I have the sunroof as well and have been thinking about adding the extension (I can get a new one really cheap right now through my job) but was afraid it would look awkward and keep me from using the sunroof.

Gaterose, thanks for the reply. I've been looking everywhere for a definitive answer on weight limits, and I saw the OM says 120, but someone else said 150. Either way, it would be easy to get to that weight. If I had to guess, I would say you were close to, if not over 120 with your load (60 for bikes, 20 for cooler, 10 for misc.) with the rack. I know they always tell you a little less to keep it safe.
Also, I have an '06 SE with the tube rails, and wasn't sure if they have the same weight rating as the LE/SR5 racks either. I'll be putting my new Megawarrior with extension on today, and I'll try to get a picture up on here once that's done. If it's really ridiculous and pointless, I'll take it off and figure out how to get the boards in there without it.

I'm fairly sure that I read the SE rack was still only 120 and sr5/limited was 110, but SE may be 140.

I upgraded to the SE tube rack on mine even though I have a limited. Looking at mine without the extension it seems like a great match and looks like the rack would hang over too much front & rear. That's why I haven't bought the extension yet

The only problem with the extension is when you try to "kick" up the rear of the sunroof versus opening all the way. Mine hit the basket on the kick up. Never run that way so no big deal.

You had over 100lbs of gear in there, plus the weight of the basket? That sounds like quite a bit! I'm guessing this Mega plus the extension is probably 60lbs or so at least. Glad to hear people are doing it though. I figured that the basket w/extension would overhang the sunroof. I measured it at about 75", and that's from the back of the rack to about halfway over the sunroof. I do have the fairing, so I'm hoping that helps, though I heard it kills MPG's by one or two. Do you have any pictures of it on your truck? I didn't get to put it on today because I was busy, and it was raining buckets here (but snowing on the Mt!).

Check out my first mods pics. I had taken out the extension a few weeks ago. I will try to find some pictures of the T4R before I took it out. Before I started to put some mods in, there wasn't really any reason to take pictures of a stock V8 with a basket. I am driving to Montreal next year to leave on a 7 day caribou hunt so I will hopefully have several pics of the basket loaded up with racks and gear. The basket with extension is 44lbs empty.

Nice. I just looked in to all the Yakima information I could find, and you're dead on: the rack weighs 44lbs with the extension in. That means we've got ~80lbs to put up there. That's actually pretty good, and better than I was hoping. The Yakima website "fitment guide" does say that the "megawarrior extension does not fit your 4R!" Ha! We'll see about that.

That's because the rear door will rest on the rack when open. One of the reasons I took out the extension. It's fine if you don't move around a lot and cause the two to rub when the hatch is open.

90lb double ocean Kayak with a Thule storage box with 50 or 60 pounds...

The weight wasn't the issue, it was the torque from the wind gusts on the boat.

I maxed out the specs of the rack and did some minor damage.

I'm asking Santa for a baja rack..

I was thinking about that, and I'm sure there is a way to make the rack sit far enough forward to where it won't hit. It may overhang the sunroof more, but I'm not putting a ton of weight up there with the snowboards. I was thinking the same thing about the weight restrictions. A well packed and balanced load would be okay as long as its relatively aerodynamic, and doesn't cause much lift or intense downforce on the top.
