How NOT to straighten a grill guard.

Okay so I screwed up my grill guard pushing another vehicle.
Bent it back against the front of the truck.

So naturally the solution was to chain the truck to a tree,
stick her in reverse 4 low & gun it...

Presto... she un-bent nicely...

Then I take a closer look & oops. The tow cable had left a big
honking dent in the grill guard's tube steel. Crap!..

So after a few failed attempts to un-kink it using a large hammer
& some clamps I devised a cunning plan to hide my dumb move
with a short piece of PVC piping...

A little paint to hide the PVC...

A couple of sheet metal screws later & all was right with the world...

Generally those guards don't guard much at all thus is why my money is spent elsewhere on my truck. Lose the guard and put on a real bumper if you truly want protection.

The truck came with the grill guard so didn't empty my pockets any. I've run them on other trucks & agree most are purely decorative, although this one seems sturdy enough to take out the occasional jaywalking old lady at least. I like the way it looks so will be keeping it for now. Well at least until I screw it up some more.
