how often is your back window rolled down?

so one of the biggest selling points for me was the back window rolling down. I have it rolled down most of the time in the short period I have owned the 4runner but I rarely see it rolled down in 4runners I see around town

see it a bit more in the spring or when a dog is in the back but still pretty rare

how often do you ride with yours down? is there any drawback to riding with it down you have noticed?

Never..I cant remember rolling it down after the day I bought my 3rd gen. Not worth the time when the hatch can be opened in fraction of a second. I had two 2nd gens...one I had to wire the window to work. Not risking it and I just open the hatch. Don't you get a bunch of exhaust back draft inside it with it down?

If you drive on wet or dusty roads you'll quickly fill the back of your truck with water, dust, or both!

I also keep it up when I'm towing a trailer as I don't care to listen to the trailer.

It is nice to have down on a nice warm day though.

Well, mine's never rolled down during the winter months for obvious reasons, but my AC is shot so I do tend to have it rolled down a lot during the summer.

I never leave it rolled down as the only window, because that's when you get a "backdraft" of exhaust fumes in the cabin.

So I'll either at least have the moon roof or my driver's door window down along with the hatch window.

The rear window is honestly the only reason I bought this rig as opposed to a Tacoma. It inches the versatility closer to that of a full on pick-up truck (with a box cap, essentially). The trade off or positive of the 4runner compared to a similar Tacoma is that the 4Runner is actually affordable, lol. People tend to either hold onto their Tacomas forever or ask a ridiculous price for them. Whereas you can get a decently maintained 4Runner for 5 grand or less. There's a lot more of them in the used vehicle segment than Tacomas.

Never. I find it useless in town, maybe even unsafe since my trunk ain't empty.
While off-roading, it would fill my trunk with dust, so it stays closed too.

I roll it down whenever i have other windows down, because it helps with airflow.

So its basically always open if its over 60 degrees out

Ive owned three different SUV's with roll down windows. Jeep Wagoneer, Ford Bronco and now the 4runner.

I dont ever roll it down because of following.

Road Noise.

Lots of exhaust fumes.

One of the coolest features for sure! I roll it down as much as possible but mostly when I have my huge German Shepherd in the back.

The only time mine's down is if someone's guiding me while I'm backing up a trailer. While it's not 100% critical, it's pretty handy to be able to hear each other.

Someone pretty senior on the 4Runner design team must have owned a dog.

Ours is down almost every day outside of the winter months. Ive seen plenty of people taking pictures of our dogs...probably more photos of them floating around the internet than Elvis.

I've had one window motor that needed to be replaced in 15 years. That was shortly after the warranty expired, so I've probably used the replacement motor 4-5 time more times than the original one.

I've never had one of them hop out the back window but I keep an eye out and close it up pretty quick for squirrels, dogs and squeegee kids.

I would actually roll mine down for the second time when I had my dog in the back if we had "squeegee kid" came around. I'm pretty sure they would remember NOT to try washing the windows!!

Around 2 times a week.

If I have my hands full of things to put in the back i roll it down. The keyless entry rolls it down before I get there so I can put it down quickly.

All the time! I use it more on the 01 than the 96 because I have the key fob for the 01. It recently dropped all the way down the mid 50s so I didnt roll it down that day. I've read that the spoiler stops the dust and backdraft exhaust stuff. I've never experienced either, so it must work.

Only if I leave my dog in the car and want the extra air flow to keep it cool. It actually works great for that in addition to the other 4 windows because it creates a better breeze through the cabin.

While driving, never because exhaust and / or dust comes in.

If yours is stuck closed that could actually be an added feature you could claim if you wanted to sell it -- "this car includes features included with later model 4runners" -- a rear window that doesn't roll down. :dance:

Funny you say that. My youngest was a pup and he jumped out of the side window when he spotted a lady pushing a cart across the street and he darted straight after her.
