How screwed am I?

So my wife calls me this morning and asks "What are the little wheels that are lit up on the dash?".... After an "over the phone diag" I figured out that when they were waiting for the daycare to open up, our 2yo hit the rear diff lock button in the roof console. She drove on the highway at what I would assume was highway speed before she noticed the light on about 4-5 miles down the road...... So how screwed am I? She claims there were no weird noises or anything after turning it off and driving the rest of the way to work but I won't get a chance to drive it until tonight..... :frusty:

Guessing you're probably fine, as I don't think the diff lock will actuate unless you're in 4lo on the Trail models. The light will come on and flash, but as long as it's not lit solid, the diff lock isn't engaged.

The rear diff lock won't engage unless you are in 4Lo so you are fine. just push the button again and the blinking light will go away.

"Not screwed at all" would be my guess. Unless you have modified it, the rear diff lock will not engage until you are in 4LO. Was your wife driving around in 4LO?

It shouldn't have engaged anything. Vehicle needs to be in 4low to activate the rear diff lock, wont enhage without being in 4low unless you have modded it to work. I have an 03 Tacoma that i have done the grey wire mod to. Ive gotten up to 70mph with the rear diff locked on paved road and nothing has ever happened.
With the grey wire mod you are able to engage the rear diff lock in not only 4low but also 4hi and in 2wd.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the fast reply's.... First time owning a 4runner after coming from GM vehicles.... She said when she pushed the button up top it turned back off... will have to investigate further when I get home tonight.....

So wait, you are right.... I think the shocks wore out and the suspension overheated.... better get those "new" parts ordered up....:guitar3:

your bumpers may have been damaged. it would probably be best to change them to high quality steel bumpers.
