How soon before first tune up?

Hi all I realize this falls into personal preference mostly but I wanted to ask everyone what they thought.

While I have't noticed any real huge decrease in MPG I do notice a little less pep in my T4R's step. I've got about 30K on it now. Everything is stock besides some minor aesthetically pleasing plasti-dipping. (Lift, tires coming next week)

What has everyone done as far as the first tune up?

At what point did you decide to do the tune up?

Preference in spark plugs? Denso? Bosch?

Those who have done the carbon filter delete...notice any difference?

I just can't imagine at 30K the dire need for a tune up BUT I know it isn't going to hurt either. Just want to ask your thoughts because I'm bored!

I have 47,000 miles on mine, and I haven't even thought about a tune up yet. I am getting about 21 MPG in the mountains and driving around Fort Collins. I guess when I get back to Texas I will read the manual...

no such thing as a "tune up" in modern cars

follow your maintenance schedule (RTFM), spark plugs at 120k miles (it may have been a little earlier if you met the special operating conditions, can't remember)

at 30k miles you should be getting your 3rd oil change and replacing air filter and cabin filter.

120K. Antman just changed his plugs at 115K and they looked and worked fine. And they are right. There is no tune up anymore unless you happen to have cracked the OEM ECU and can change operating parameters.

My wife's 05 Camry just turned 190,000 miles and still hasn't had a tuneup. And it still runs like the day she drove it home. It doesn't look like it anymore...... But it sure runs great! Just scheduled maintenance over the last 11 years.

well they are going to have a tough time cleaning and adjusting the points when you finally take it in for that tuneup :p

Like others said, tune ups are really a thing of the past, but there are few things (not typically on the scheduled maintenance list) that I do to keep things running 100% at their best.

1. Clean the MAF sensor. This is pretty much your engines main sensor to what the heck is going on, and they do get a little dirty sometimes from the issues described in #2.

2. I run an air oil separator in the PCV system. It is amazing how much oil it catches that would otherwise be in the intake killing effective octane and generally clogging things up. Some still gets past it... but it cuts it down by a descent amount.

3. I clean the TB once in a while. It cokes up from the PCV air. This will eventually impact the idle stability.

4. Periodically check all the clamps involved in airbox to TB path. If there is anything loose... It will make the motor run like crap from unmetered air.

Thanks for likely one of the most helpful- non sarcastic- answers. I'll always believe that no question is a bad one! I'm hoping that help was received by those who are hesitant to ask because of responses like:
:fear:
