How the hell do I get these screws out?

I hate these damn screws in the A-pillar "o shit" handle...
I've had some people say tighten it a little before loosening it to break the blue lock tire...
Otherwise if they are stripped... gotta extract

I tried to take mine off as well, some what messed up the screw on one but it should be ok. I saw this hand impact tool in a video and was going to try it out.

Impact driver. Not the gun, but the handle that you smack with a hammer. You can try smacking a regular screwdriver as you're holding rotation tension on the screwdriver (counterclockwise as you hold it) and see if it breaks free. That's what I did.
that tool should work . I use a similar tool . have extra bits they can crack.

i had to drill and tap mine. drill perfectly straight through it with a bit just smaller than the threads. it will come out. Pain in the butt! i left mine out for months before it got around to trying to fix it.

I might pick up matching screws from lowes then do that then. Know what size screws to buy?

+ 1 on the impact screwdriver.
You can get one for less than $10 at harbor freight.

NO... Wait... It has thread locker. The first thing to do is to turn the bolt right as you would tightening it. This breaks the Loctite. Now you can turn to the left. I have removed 100's of these and that is how it worked for me all the time.
It is regular 10 mm bolt, about an inch long.

I already stripped out one. How do you get these out?!?!
Yep, I hate these screws. I stripped all of them on both sides. I ended up just using a drill bit and drilled them out. I then got the same sized screws at OSH and put them back in. The threads were not damaged.
Tried taking mines out too. Their on the verge of stripping so I stopped. I tried the 1/4" impact driver, and a 3/8 impact driver and it only made things worse in my case. I'm thinking the next thing to do is to drilling it out and that method will be a pita for sure. Would reverse drill bits work on this?

Add another victim to the grab handle bolt list. I have stripped 2 of them. What I had to do was use a dremmel and cut and nice flat groove in it so I could use a flat head screwdriver to back it out. I broke 2 screwdriver bits on it.
Do yourself a favor and replace them with a hex socket bolt instead so you don't strip it again next time (I bought 4) from Home Depot. They are in the metric bins in the specialty section. I believe it's an M10 x 1.25 or 1.5, just bring the old along to compare.

These little brass screws are EVERYWHERE on the 4runner. (and possibly on other Toyotas as well) And always in the most inconvenient places where vicegrips don't fit...
Was this Toyota's was of forcing good natured DIYers such as ourselves to go to the dealer and spend more money there?

The problem is twofold: terrible location in having them sunk into soft plastic and the fact they used thread lock on it. The thread lock is extremely hard to break.

Mine stripped... replaced ALL of them with socket heads.. so much better.
They used the same stupid bolts on the radio bezel... with how many times I've taken apart the center console I really should do the same there... I drilled mine out, ran through with the tap to clear the threads and put the new ones in.

They're also on the gearshift, on the Throttle body, and on a bunch of other things too.
