How to: Changing fog lamps on 3rd gen stock fogs

Does anyone have the part number for the 3 little screw for the fog lights? mine is strip and need a replacement.

Can't find it now, but somebody posted a thread using these as replacements:

If you have a Fastenal near you, get these - they are MUCH better and a perfect fit. I'm sure there are other sources as well, would have to search.

I posted the Fastenal link for the right screws. They are stainless steel and will not corrode. The factory screws in the fog lamps are soft and rust easily. I have had these stainless Fastenal screws and have had no issues and they were INEXPENSIVE! If anyone needs the part numbers for Fastenal for these, I have it written down somewhere...just let me know!

I'm bringing this topic back from the dead. I purchased and installed factory fog lights from partsgeek.com about a year and a half ago. I got the directional stalk with the fog light switch from rockauto.com about the same time. The fuse and relay needed I got from my flaps. Total cost was less than $250.

When I installed, I took the time to remove the cover screws and slather them with anti-seize. I'm glad I did.

I had a bulb go out yesterday and went shopping at my local farm/home store. I found they stocked 55w h3 bulbs by Philips for $10, and an off brand (Blazer) for $3. Additionally, they also had the Blazer h3 in 100w for $3. I bought two of the 100w and swapped both out. The circuit is holding up, and I'll report back after driving tonight whether or not the difference is notable.

So after replacing both bulbs that were visibly blown I still don't have functioning fogs. Fuses are all fine and I swapped the relay as well with no change. Going to probe the switch next.

Anyone know of any other known failure points in the fog light circuit on '99 Limiteds?

Can anyone confirm the housing and wiring held up with the 100 watt bulbs? Seems like numerous people on this thread bought them and no one reported back.

Mae sure you close the assembly before testing. Took me a while to realize that you need to put the bulb in place and replace the spring clip before the circuit is completed. Really thought i screwed the pooch there for a while!!

Great write up,
I changed my fog bulbs out today for ones that colour match my headlights.
Instead of removing the single 8mm bolt (my small socket set was upstairs) I ooped to leave the foglight assembly in place and instead go staright for the three small Phillips head screws on the underside of the assembly.
I got at the bulbs just fine, (I have big hands and still was nimble enough to finesse the connectors loose and swap out the bulbs.)

Bringing this back, again, for an update. The 100w Blazer bulbs are still burning bright after 18 months with no blown fuses or burned wiring. I have the fog switch set to be on whenever the headlights are on. I do not have DRL's.

Another update - one of my $2.99 100w H3 Blazer bulbs failed over the weekend. So, that's two years and three months lifespan, and my fogs are always on when headlights are lit. The 100w bulbs are considerably brighter than the 55w.

I bought two new bulbs and replaced them both, taking the time to clean the rubber gasket (Q-tip and rubbing alcohol) and apply anti-seize to the screws. Don't skip this step or the screws will fail.

Since I have replaced my headlights with LED's I would LOVE to swap out my fogs to LED's as well...so they match. Bright white and yellow below is ugly.

Does anyone have any reliable "plug and play" LED options for the fogs on my 02 Sport?

Any help much appreciated.

3rd Gen 4Runner Lens wanted?

Do you know if it is possible to buy just the glass that covers the light bulbs? Both of mine are broke but I don't want to buy an entire fog lamp.

Almost 14 years to the day... Did anyone ever find these lenses? I'm scouring Amazon, eBay and Google and still no luck on JUST a lens.

I know this is an old thread but google brought me here today. Wanted to add that I just swapped out the bulbs on my 2001 and had no problem getting the three screws out while leaving the assembly in place and this is in the rust belt. Just be very careful because I'm pretty sure they're JIS screws and your standard bits might not fit perfectly. I was able roll up the white boot on the bulb connector and disconnect it by holding the female end on the harness with pliers. Definitely use anti seize on the screws.
