How to check if you have strawberry milkshake / O2 sensor replacement

got the O2 sensor on.

for anybody wanting to know what size nuts to get for that sensor bolts, its an M8, 1.25 thread pitch.

i picked up hardness 10, and that was a 1/2" size drive. Used open ended wrench for most part, turning 60 degrees at a time, plowed right thru the damaged threads from the grinder dremel..

I did the exact same. I just worked the new nuts on/off with the help of a wire brush and a thin flat head screwdriver to clean up the threads best I could as I went along.

Luckily, I didn't have anything to do to remove the old nuts since they were both disintegrated. It's the reason I noticed and got 2 new nuts was because I had a loud exhaust rattle that when I investigated, found my O2 sensor just barely hanging onto one of the studs, flopping about when I'd give'er throttle.

The extra exhaust noise had went unnoticed because I already have a pretty loud Cherry Bomb style muffler on my rig.

I did the exact same.

did you have the CEL on that told you to replace the O2 sensor? I did, so that's why i did it. Now, not sure what's normal or not, but my CEL went off after 2 days of the new O2 sensor install.... I think clearing the codes at Oreilly's will do it too, but, kinda neat that the old girl recognized the new sensor.

also did you do just the one or both?

Just the one (downstream). I didn't get a CEL from it. Just a rattle and louder exhaust because the sensor was dangling there on just one nutless stud.

I'm kind of surprised that no one has used VW copper flanged exhaust nuts as replacements. They work well, and if they become corroded they can be melted off with a torch very easily. Just an idea.

it actually went very well for once... spent 20 minutes actually working on the nuts.... again hope i can just force the threads to work out on that left side, with a hardened nut... guess we'll see... but that was a hell of a lot easier than I expected....wow.

That's great news, i'd never heard of one of these things, definitely wish I'd known about this before I used the Dremel. Good work man.
