How to connect to the alternator?

I'm feeling sort of dumb asking this but I'm not sure how to connect the positive to the alternator. I'm upgrading the "big 3" and have done the negatives no problem but when I look at the alternator it appears to have some sort of plug so I'm not sure how to replace the stock wire with the 1/0 gauge. Here's a pic of the plug:

Has anyone done this that can give me some tips?

Ok, figured it out. The plastic plug is just a cover. Couldn't tell or get to it until I removed this seemingly useless plate that was over it. (Still have no idea what that plate would be for.) Now I can just put the thicker one on top of the old one and find a bigger rubber boot to go over that to keep it dry. There was a bit of corrosion on there so the plastic boot isn't completely doing it's job anyway.

u can use those rubber terminal boots , that are usually found on some aftermarket battery cable and slip it thru the new wire and then use that to cover the rest of the bolt up on the alternator. i just use that factory cover and use a zip tie to secure it, works so far. i think that plate u removed act like a water splash gaurd to keep the alternator dry. post pic of your big three, i wanna see and compare, on my grounds i have a wire infront of the engine, behind the bracket to the battery negative, also to the stock ground bolt too , all snded down to show bare metal.

I'll post pics when I'm done. Just waiting for a small adapter to finish. I just used the existing spot on the engine. I didn't bother sanding the connections that looked clean figuring most of the connection is through the bold as opposed to the surface. Just made sure my bolts and washers were clean. I wayu overestimated the amount of cable I'd need so I'll have some to get rid of when I'm done.
