How to disable the annoying beep?

There is an awful, annoying beep that happens every 2 seconds when driving with the rear door open. I used my 4runner to pick up some lumber, and I was squawked at for the drive home because my rear hatch was open. Is there a way to alleviate this? Driving with a door open isn't something I do all the time, but when I do, I'd prefer not to hear about it.

Do you have lumbers that sticking out, that might be picked up by the parking assist, try to turn that off, cause i don't think that beep due to the window is down.

Flip the latch on the door itself into the LATCHED or CLOSED position. You have to stick your finger or perhaps a screwdriver or something similar in there while the lift gate is open. Then, BEFORE you close it (after you remove the lumber of course), MAKE SURE to use the electronic door opener button above the license plate to "open" the latch before you close the rear gate. This tricks the car into thinking that it is closed. Do not forget to unlatch it!

The sensor for the "door open" alarm sound is in the door, NOT the other way around. I had originally though that it was triggered by either a button on the door jamb, or by the latch making an electronic connection with the latch receiver, but not so...it is in the latch itself.

Another plus in doing this, is that you can tie a rope to the locked latch to keep the door from flying up while driving.
