How to disassemble side mirror?

Yesterday some truck almost side swiped me from the oncoming lane. Fortunately he didn't hit the side of my truck, but he did nail my driver side mirror. I stopped of course, but he just kept going.... Anyhow, although nothing appears wrong with the assembly, it does sound like something is broken inside because there's a rattle in it now. My question is how difficult is it to remove and disassemble the side mirror? Is it possible to purchase the outside plastic housing by itself?

Sure,they sell the plastic housing by itself.
What model 4runner(with or without turn signal in mirror) and what color do you have ?

I have a 2010 TE so it's the black plastic housing. There is definitely a small piece broken inside and I can see it with the mirror pointed all the way in. I just left it alone for the time being.

I'm in the same boat - some sideswiped while I was parked overnight. Plastic housing is cracked pretty good - any suggestions on where to order part?
