How to drop a gas tank?

this is a 95 SR5 V6 4x4 4runner

I've got my main high pressure feed disconnected, both returns, disconnected, and the sensor disconnected. all the bolts are out from the cage and the tank. I can move the tank around with my hands, it's empty.

YET, i can not get this thing to drop. what is the trick???

ah, crap....I completely forgot to get those out. thankyou thankyou.

yes it's leaking on something on the top of the tank, and I can not see it clearly without dropping it. i can see the stream of gas when the engine is cranked, but not wear it is coming from.

One other thing--there are wiring clips that need to be bent open or the harness will hang up as you try to drop it. They are on top of the tank, running forward from the pump cover. They're soft metal and bend easily, and will bend back when everything's back in place. Hope you have a floor jack--makes it nice and easy (with a helper to steady it, that is).

How coincidental, I had to drop my tank Sunday to install my in-tank pump. Those 2 hoses bob mentioned was all that was left.

Your leak is most likely where the hose connects to the pump assy.
The metal tubes that the hose connects to rust out, very common.

You might find this link helpful when I dropped the petrol tank on our 4runner to replace the fuel pump.
