How To Fix ObamaCare

I think there are definitely some things that need to be fixed in health care, but no one on either side seems to really want solutions. The original bill SHOULD HAVE been passed piece-by-peice in a bipartisan manner. Instead the Dems got in a big rush and forced through heavily flawed/ heavily partisan bill. No one wants to work together these day because each party has been taken over by those with extreme views. Here's what I would do:
-Allow kids up to 25yo to be covered on family plans
-Allow coverage for those with pre-exisiting conditions IF they are a minor, or are an adult who has a history of carrying insurance from the time they were 25yo with no more than a 12-month lapse. (ie., you did the responsible thing before you got sick)
-Keep the individual mandate (yeah, I said it), but raise the penalty to roughly the equivalent of one year of premiums.....let's say $1000-1500. The current penalty is too low and, right or wrong, young people are going to choose that over insurance.
-No special deals for large corporations or unions.
-Since insurance premium "tax credits" are based on household income. We need to change the tax code as well. People are cheating the system by having kids, living together, but not getting officially married and filing separate taxes. I see it every day....This is legal tax fraud and should not be allowed

Obamacare is a tax. It redistributes wealth.
It hikes up the rates of those of us with insurance we like so that we can subsidize government plans for those of us who either don't have insurance or have insurance they like but the administration deems "substandard" or "junk."
The Democrats scream that 40-50 million Americans are WITHOUT INSURANCE!!! CBO projections show that after the implementation of BarryCare we'll have over 30 million still without insurance.
At what cost? To insure those 15 million, people are losing their coverage and having to buy much more expensive plans. Those "junk" plans by "bad apple" insurance companies don't have things like maternity care, pediatric dentistry, in vitro fertilization, health care for young dependents... because those people don't want or need them. Why would a 60 year old woman need to pay more for health care plans that include those things when her kids are fully grown? Because whoever wrote the ACA law (and no one seems to know what's in it) said so.
This stuff isn't free. So most of us will have to pay more for our existing plans, insurance companies are going to cut coverage and increase premiums, doctors will get paid less and work more. Unintended consequences have resulted in employers dropping coverage, pushing people onto exchanges, cutting hours to less than 30 "part time"... just so some idiot community organizer can say he reformed health care by forcing a law on a country that doesn't want it.
The fix is worse than the problem, and now that we're seeing the entire Obamacare rollout has been handled by incompetent government idiots--and the incompetency goes all the way up to the top with The One Himself, we see the Democrat rats running from the ACA sinking ship, and Barry trying to fix things in his incompetent way by demanding that insurance companies overhaul their plans in 30 days AGAIN when they just spent 3 years trying to follow his mountain of thousands of pages of confusing Obamacare rules.
Best case scenario Obama becomes a lame duck, people ignore him, and Democrats get crushed in 2014 because we all have video of them screaming "if you like your plan, you can keep your plan." There's no running from that, and they're trying to go behind the back of Emperor Obama and his executive order half-assed attempts at fixing his "signature legislation."

To use football metaphors (like the tragically unathletic Obaba) the Teabaggers were lured off-sides with the shutdown, and that diverted attention from the disastrous Obamacare rollout. Republicans are stupid. Democrats have built their own gallows, bought the rope, and dug their own graves with Obamacare, but the Tea Party keeps doing stupid shit to detract attention from this massive failure and makes Republicans look like a worse alternative.

Let Obamacare ruin the American folks who voted for him...let them learn the hard way why voting is important and how one should educate oneself about the candidates. Being "cool" on MTV or hanging out with Jay-Z is much different than running a country. It should NEVER have been about the color of Obama skin that determines your vote.

You ninja'd my edit, but exactly. Boehner was set to force Obamacare down the Dems throat, complete with all the disastrous provisions Obama wanted to delay, and it would have shut down the insurance industry lobby, killed the entire ACA, and forced the Dems back to the table to negotiate real health care reform. Instead the Tea Party retards took the bit in their teeth and ****ed the whole thing up. Left Boehner no room to maneuver, and now the Repugnicans get the reprise the role of Bad Guy in the next round of elections.

I'm not convinced. I think the insurance industry is the biggest single reason our health care system is ****ed. Take out that parasitic middleman, and I'll bet you the cost of care gets really frickin' manageable, really quick, without the need for the drawbacks of single-payer.
As a die hard capitalist, it pains me to say it, but capitalism and health care don't play well together in the modern world. But where single-payer nationalized health care may work well in a smaller more nimble government, I don't see it working well at all in our corrupt behemoth of a system. I'm much more in favor of a heavily-regulated market system.

So, basically punish EVERYONE by creating a socialized system. That's an awesome idea. Ask people who use VA and IHS how they like their healthcare.
IMO, the only thing broken in the current system is pré-existing conditions. People need to take responsibility for their actions. That includes the young healthy people who'd rather spend money on PS4s, iPhones, and tattoos than health insurance.
Large companies like Walmart also need to step it up and provide insurance

I really like the idea of a flat tax. Let's say 10%. Doesn't matter if you make 10 million a year or 10,000. 10%.. There would be no deductions or tax credits or child credits. No lower rate for people under the poverty level and no lower level for making your income by capital gains.

For over 40 years we've had a very successful single payer healthcare that loosely fits the definition of socialized medicine, it's called Medicare. Unfortunately you have to be 65 to use it. I think a discussion on expanding that for all Americans could be progressive here.
Oh and I'm sorry I don't have any hyperbolic pics or memes to post, maybe that's what this thread is for and it's gone over my head.
