How To Fix ObamaCare

So how has this affected YOU? Has YOUR wealth been distributed? Are your taxes higher? Did you lose your coverage? Did you have to go to a more expensive plan? These are logical questions. As from yesterday I didn't get a response from anyone on how it has affected them or their family.

I imagine if I would have replied with a picture saying something good of the Republican Party or blaming the President for something bad then I'd probably get a reply.

Obamacare is a tax. It redistributes wealth.

It hikes up the rates of those of us with insurance we like so that we can subsidize government plans for those of us who either don't have insurance or have insurance they like but the administration deems "substandard" or "junk."

The Democrats scream that 40-50 million Americans are WITHOUT INSURANCE!!! CBO projections show that after the implementation of BarryCare we'll have over 30 million still without insurance.

At what cost? To insure those 15 million, people are losing their coverage and having to buy much more expensive plans. Those "junk" plans by "bad apple" insurance companies don't have things like maternity care, pediatric dentistry, in vitro fertilization, health care for young dependents... because those people don't want or need them. Why would a 60 year old woman need to pay more for health care plans that include those things when her kids are fully grown? Because whoever wrote the ACA law (and no one seems to know what's in it) said so.

This stuff isn't free. So most of us will have to pay more for our existing plans, insurance companies are going to cut coverage and increase premiums, doctors will get paid less and work more. Unintended consequences have resulted in employers dropping coverage, pushing people onto exchanges, cutting hours to less than 30 "part time"... just so some idiot community organizer can say he reformed health care by forcing a law on a country that doesn't want it.

The fix is worse than the problem, and now that we're seeing the entire Obamacare rollout has been handled by incompetent government idiots--and the incompetency goes all the way up to the top with The One Himself, we see the Democrat rats running from the ACA sinking ship, and Barry trying to fix things in his incompetent way by demanding that insurance companies overhaul their plans in 30 days AGAIN when they just spent 3 years trying to follow his mountain of thousands of pages of confusing Obamacare rules.

Best case scenario Obama becomes a lame duck, people ignore him, and Democrats get crushed in 2014 because we all have video of them screaming "if you like your plan, you can keep your plan." There's no running from that, and they're trying to go behind the back of Emperor Obama and his executive order half-assed attempts at fixing his "signature legislation."

Well, my hospital's reimbursement has gone down. My hospital just spent millions on EMR system just to satisfy the government and avoid penalties. Of course, the requirements for EMR is far from being standardized to the point of being useful.

Should anyone wait until they are directly affected by a clearly flawed policy before acting? Isn't that kinda stupid suggestion?

Ask RonMaiden (moderator)...he is a liberal...his wife full-time job got eliminated or something to that extent because of Obamacare. Should we wait then until that happens to us before acting?

For over 40 years we've had a very successful single payer healthcare that loosely fits the definition of socialized medicine, it's called Medicare.

Medicare/Medicaid doesn't work. It pays pennies on the dollar and forces additional heavy costs on doctors and hospitals. I have yet to see a practice or hospital that would willingly take on Medicare/Medicaid patients--it's mostly forced on institutions that take state and federal money and they have to make their money elsewhere, or just take huge losses.

As for people "liking" Medicare, they show up at academic centers and get super expensive treatment essentially for free, while the taxpayers and hospitals take a huge loss. Who wouldn't want a 400k procedure and hospital bills comped?

My previous job canned our Humana plan in favor of a crappy BCBS plan. My wife, who had a good plan through her job got it swapped out for one with much higher premiums and I had to add her on to my plan, which had increased premiums for families when they had people signing up because their spouses had lost coverage or got dumped on a lousy employer plan.

Insurance companies are getting their money wherever they can, and everyone's costs are rising.

I'm not sure that many people understand the difference between socialized medicine and outright socialism.

What does Medicare do for us? Well, as of now, there are an expanding set of "goals" set for doctors and hospitals etc.. I will give an example. For dialysis (artificial kidney exchange; 3 times a week) patients, Medicare is coming out with new guidelines to "grade" a dialysis unit. Basically, if a patient's electrolytes are out of whack (due to noncompliance on patient's part), then that dialysis unit gets penalized by reduced reimbursement. Of course, there are times when a doctor can only do so much to help a patient out. What does this mean?

This basically forces the unit/doctor to fire the patient...because if he keeps him/her, he gets penalized severely in his pockets. This patient will then be forced to find another unit to take him/her. The problem with this is that because of these "goals" set by the government/Medicare, these dialysis units will fire any non-compliant patient and/or unwilling to take new patients with history of non-compliance. These patients will then die because either he can't find a new unit or has no mode of transportation to go to far away units.

People used to laugh that we will never have "death panels." Is the above not that far from it? Indirectly, Medicare is weeding out the weak...puts the pressure on the doctors/units to do their dirty work. The above is just one example. Everywhere you look in my profession, there are similar guidelines for your family doctor, for your hospital, for your ER, and for your clinic. Don't believe me? Ask your family doctor! And this is why your local clinics are being bought out by big institutions/hospital systems. Small clinics cannot survive with these financial cuts/penalties.

Welcome to our new medical system.

I think most people who talk about how great socialized medicine is, aren't in the medical field. They somehow think hospitals and doctors should work for free.

Unfortunately, there are folks like ndcent that does not have a damn clue but yet opens his mouth to talk about stuff, such as above. Of course, by the time these folks realize the truth of it, it is already too late. RonMaiden used to argue with me endlessly about how great Obama is...i wonder if he still thinks that way.

I was about to thank you for your insight and example of Medicare.

Then I see this and am reminded what a stupid low classless ****ing ******* you are. Seriously, **** you hard.

That's OK, you're an Obamasexual kid full of white guilt.

Not that I'm for the affordable care act. But to the posters against the thread.. And be honest here. Have you lost your healthcare or has your rates increased? If not, how is it really affecting you or your family?

My rates have increased and although it is as severe this year, the increase will go up per person and as well as the tax on other corporate insurance companies to drive them out of business, which will leave a monopoly of insurance coverage to the government. Yes that will go over really well. They have seemed to mange the budget, postal service, and the federal reserve well. . . now we HAVE to rely on them for healthcare?!?! You say I'm crazy but the ball is now rolling and 5 years from now the market for healthcare will be narrowed down to few providers. Even Europeans are saying where we are going with the healthcare system is nowhere good. Do I believe that healthcare needs revitalized YES, do I believe passing this "affordable" care act and having none of the statesmen who passed it have to take up this plan also goes to show you how reliable this IDEA is.

:roadkill:

Thanks to everyone for the posts on how it has affected you and your families. At the moment it hasn't affected my family. I'm hoping it really doesn't. Currently we are on Tricare which is government medical anyway.

Does it always have to revert back to racism?

Oh no, it is the President that uses it way more often than anyone else....

And yeah, i feel that some white folks have (misplaced) guilt and thus goes out of their way to overcompensate....

So the whole it hasn't affected me so it can't be that bad. . . .good mentality I guess. Fortunate for you it hasn't affected you but for others it is a problem and it does need to be addressed and fixed.

This is a common mentality unfortunately. Do you see the libtards running for cover once they realize the craphhole that they just got themselves in? I love it! You see Times magazine now actually re-thinking their approach to the President. You see liberal media now actually shitting themselves. LOVING IT.

Does it always have to revert back to racism?

Also I think the "R" word is one of the most overused words in todays conversations, debates, and media and really has lost the actually meaning and the actual event in when this word could be used.

Just like the Jewish folks who voted for Obama and seeing how he has pissed on their home country...i am happy about this.

Thai

You do realize that Isreal is not the home country of American born Jews or the children of parents who immigrated to the US from Europe -right?

Despite what you may have heard on Fox News , very very very few Americans of Jewish decent have any parents or grandparents in Israel. Israel is its own country. Israeli Jews and American Jews are not the same.

But that does not mean that they do not consider Israel their homeland...or where there ancestors lived. What you wrote is very superficial. Just because they are born elsewhere does not mean that they don't consider Israel their home or 2nd home or home away from home etc..

My rates were pretty much steady for 10 years. As soon as the ACA was passed by democrats only in congress, they jumped, and have been steadily increasing since. They are now over double what they were prior to the ACA passing, and coverage has been reduced, and co-pays are up. My Dr. also took early retirement, rather than having to deal with the cuts in reimbursement he would have to accept, as a result of having to take on more medicaid and medicare patients.

My folks have a Medicare supplement and their rates and co-pays have increased since the ACA passed, and the coverage reduced. Also, their GP Doctor (the same as mine) took early retirement. It has been a struggle for them to find a new Doctor willing to accept them as patients, since any doctor that does accept them, will be reimbursed at a lower rate than from other patients not on medicare.

I won't even bother to mention all of the people I am directly aware of, who have lost their jobs outright, had their hours cut to less than 30 hours a week, or had their insurance premiums along with co-pays increase. Sometimes while simultaneously losing coverage on a new health plan.

I know one naive individual on here would call that last paragraph anecdotal. But rest assured, the business owners are people I know personally, and the people being affected are their employees. The alternative to those harsh realities, is to simply close their doors, and put all of their employees out of work.

Hurray for the ACA/Obamacare.
