Well guys.....be careful when you do this. I tried to do it and I should have used some wd40 but this is what I'm rollin with until I can get the part. I broke the threaded part trying to get it loose, I was in the engine bay for all of 5 minutes before it happened. I've cursed more in the past thirty minutes than I have in a long time, don't judge on my quick fix, I have to get to drive my baby to work and thanksgiving haha hopefully this'll do the trick, atleast for a little

I'm noticing an 01-02 throttle body. This won't even work for you. Your truck is fly by wire.

yup shoulda read up more, I got all jumpy on it. oh well you live and you learn. Does anyone know the part that i need? I have to get that party and get it on tomorrow, I have to make it back up to oklahoma to work tomorrow night. I don't ex[ect much being it thanksgiving but if anyone knows what part I need...

It's not the bracket. theres a hollow threaded tube that the two nuts go on. one nut on each side of the bracket. I went to loosen the one closest to the throttle body and put too much pressure on the wrench, it had seized up and the hollow threaded tube the actual throttle line goes through broke in half.
thats why I put the plastic there and taped each side to it that way the throttle line could still move freely but there would still be enough stability so that it wouldnt pop out of the bracket.
Does this make sense, I'm really beating myself up about this I'm going to be really pissed if its a big deal.

I only saw this post because of your comment that popped up in "new" yesterday; just checked mine, and of course they were looser than the village bicycle. What a difference indeed.

On any 01-02 and in fact any 3rd gen, you may have to clean your MAF and throttle body. It is easy to do, but make sure you get throttle body cleaner and not carb cleaner.
When I did mine it was very dirty, black and coated with scum, and I discovered that one of the intake rubber connecting tubes was also dried and beginning to crack so I replaced it.
I simply removed my throttle body, sprayed it and wipe it out. I removed the side panel over the holes for pressure stabilization, (I believe,) and clean them too. Then I sprayed out and cleaned the intake and MAF. No more hesitation and not more weird idling at start up.
I believe the cable adjustment is part of the regular preventive maintenance schedule and process, or PMS, and it is likely the company trucks are on it.

Did this tonight. Really woke the truck up even if all it did was move the throttle point closer on the gas pedal
My problem is the actual pedal itself. There's about a half inch of play before the pedal grabs. Looks like there is a rubber grommet that is busted on the end of the cable
Anyone know what I can do with this?

Great thread. Did this to my '00, as I'm the original owner and have never do this, nor do I believe they've ever been adjusted by Toyota service. What a difference. Along with adjusting the cables, also cleaned MAF as well as throttle body and we're running better than new !!!

Worked great. However, I got a little carried away and thought I could fix my laggy cruise control and ended up tightening that one too much. It caused the idle to be around 1700 rpm. Once I backed it of a bit, idle went back to normal.

Does this tightening of the throttle cable apply to a 2001 SR5 sport 3.4L auto? I saw some mention of drive by wire on 01 and 02 models, so I wanted to be sure that this was something that I might be able to adjust on my rig. I have noticed that the pedal seems to be a little off in terms of throttle response and pedal movement.

You can adjust the throttle cable on your '01.

Can I just adjust the two nuts under the hood? Or do I need to involve a second person and the gas pedal?
