How to keep your cabin air filter lasting longer

Hello all im new here and glad to be here. So for my first mod idea i decided to come up with a way to keep the cabin air filter lasting longer. And keeping large debris out. First we have screen material that will go in where all the air comes from (by the upper passenger side). use a sharp edge knife to cut and trace a piece of screen material. Then when its cut out you take super glue (or hot glue gun) to the four corners and possibly the middle of it. ( i have yet to think of another way) And then when that is done i get a piece of foam like material, ( i have yet to get the materials, lol) that lets air pass through it but still traps things, i belive its white in color, and only a little more than a qaurter inch thick, now heres the trickier part, cutting the foam to fit, do the same as you did with the screen material just more pressure. now to get it to stay, you put like a little piece of black velcro on the sides and top and bottom of the plastic wall like thing to get it to stay. and now you have a very cheap way to get it to last longer, i have yet to try this so it isnt perfected, i will post pics once i get the stuff and do it.

I'm not really worried about large particles (or even small ones)getting caught on my cabin filter. I purchased a 2' x 1' 3M Filtrete filter for under $20 and was able to make 4 cabin filters. So I can honestly say I can afford to change my filters once (or if need be, twice) a year. There was a thread that discussed this. One of the money saving tips from T4R.org

Could you find that thread again for us. Are the original filter's case reusable or sort of reusable and you just replaced the filter medium.
