How to lock the front??

Im trying to lock the front with locking hubs and a spool, i know ARB makes the air locker but i dont really want to spend all that money so i was thinking to just install a spool as well as a pair of locking hubs in the front as i only use my 4runner for off road use and trailer it. The shop i usually buy my stuff from cant seem to find a spool for the front even tho ive purchased a rear spool from them before, and the only locking hubs they can get are mile marker locking hubs. although the mile marker hubs were $98 bucks, id rather pay more for something like AISIN or WARN, but i cant find them anwhere as well as the spool. If anyone knows where i can find one or both these parts PLEASE let me know, i really dont want to grab mile marker hubs and end up welding the front diff to lock it

No one makes a 7.5" spool....mainly because that front clamshell will break in a hurry off road with a spool and both hubs locked.

Look into the manual hub conversion. You can't just slab on locking hubs, you actually have to swap spindles, or do some press work.

Swap in manual AISIN hubs from a base model tacoma and get an aussie locker. That's probably your cheapest option.

Also a spool in the front will be a real ***** on tight turns and switchbacks, so you may find yourself in 3 wheel drive (just one hub locked) most of the time and jumping out of the car to lock the other hub for obstacles.

Do it a good way, or do it a cheap way.

Good way-ARB

Cheap Way-Aussie locker

While both have thier advantages, spend the money and go with the ARB.

The Aussie locker, as said above, will be a ***** on sharp turns, switch backs, ect ect.

the ARB is FULLY selectable, so all you have to do is flip a switch when you need it, and then shut it off when you don't.

You'll save yourself some CVs, time, and pain if you go with the ARB, as long as you're smart when you use it.

Plus, you can air up your tires at the trail head instead of going all the way back to the gas station.

***EDIT****

No one makes hubs for the 4Runner anymore. If they say they can get mile marker or whatever, someone isn't being truthful, or the hubs you're going to get are universal.

Stay away from those.

Go to a Junk Yard, find some Manual Spindles off a Taco, and Swap all of it. It's easier, and it'll be better in the long run.

Aussie rear, arb front, best way to go for a cheaper setup and still get locked, like stated turning with the front aussie is not going to be fun.
