Put down the phone and the computer and just go outside and relax. You seem to take this forum stuff a little too serious. Try this for me next time a person ask what size tires fit with X amount of lift. Give them the answer along with a link to where they can research more about the topic, by doing this you become a solution to the problem. Right now you are part of the problem...

by allowing people to continue to ask the same question over and over, IS the problem or one of the problems with the forum, maybe thats why I havent been as active here, and am very active on a few select forums, either way, the question was asked, and I gave my thoughts/answer(s)

and that's not meant to be rude... when I'm researching a topic and it leads me to yotatech, half the time I get a little more info out of it then someone says to search.... then everyone makes an argument out of it and that's kinda the attitude I see in your post.
I certainly agree though, huge annoyance to comb through threads that ultimately end up way off topic.

There's one key thing to remember, though (and for the record, 04rnr, I agree with you 100%, from a certain viewpoint), and it's this:
Unfortunately, unless/until more mods are brought on to merge/move threads, or someone builds The Mother Of All T4R Answer Threads™, you KNOW we're going to have these repeat threads anyways. LOL
That being the case, until one of the two things above is implemented, we can either:
a) have them with "Search n00b" as a response, or
b) have them with an ANSWER as a response.
That's all I'm trying to say. But yes, you're right - 20404 threads asking what's the biggest size tires I can run stock with no lift does get aggravating. LOL

Not sure how this can be done, but I think there should be more traffic in the General Section. I usually stay within the 4th gen section, but sometimes when I click on the T4R logo at the top to get to the home page, I see a thread that catches my eye in, say, the 5th gen section that is mostly about all 4Runners, not just in particular. For example (this is random and not a specific example I have actually seen), I would see a thread in another gen's section such as "What's coolest place your 4Runner has been?" or "What's the longest trip your 4Runner has been on?" and etc.
I always see things like 4th gen section 200 viewing and "General Section 30 viewing". Maybe before a new thread is posted it can ask the user "Is this thread. Like I said, not sure how this can be improved, just a thought.

I use to do this daily, but Id see questions being asked, that have been asked again and again, or the the tread going way off topic :shrug:

I've gleaned all the information I need about my vehicle (for now). So, until I'm ready to take on a new mod that I don't know much about, I'm just browsing or looking at pictures.
I use the Quick Links tab to pull up "Today's Posts" when I search to see if there is anything new, like trip logs, etc. A lot of times there isn't, but there may be something else that is interesting enough to check out.
All the repeat questions from n00bs are kind of annoying, but not nearly as annoying as older members doing the same thing.
Like This, or the aforementioned posting of threads in the wrong section. I think consolidating some of the sub forums and moving topics to the appropriate section would be a huge step forward for this forum.
If a 25 post minimum were required before starting a new thread, n00b members would be forced to find an appropriate thread to post their question instead of just starting a new thread. Right now members are allowed to be lazy because they know mods don't have the time to move/merge threads. However, if they start getting moved, then our members may be more conscious about where they post to save mods the time of having to move it later. (Maybe not, but it's a nice thought)
That said, I think an "Ultimate Tire Fit" thread would probably help eliminate some of the repeat tire threads/questions. That way, instead of telling them to search, we could just post a link to that ultimate thread. But, who wants to take the time to put that together? I don't

There's NO way to avoid the same questions/topics being discussed over and over again. It's simply the nature of a forum - and there are only so many topics.
The top Sticky (or something in the nav) on EVERY sub-forum/category could be "How to find the information you need" or "get the most out of this website" - and make it the top sticky and in a manner that it sticks out - same as the search tool - it blends - it doesn't stand out.
Everyone was a newbie at some point - give them a break - be helpful - don't get pissed because they don't know where to look. Nothing lamer than seeing someone comment just to give someone grief.

I think the site mostly works and I don't see anything wrong with a place where quick questions can be matched with quick answers. I worry more about the side effects of trying to force improvements than I do about noobs with annoying questions. Tradeoffs are always present and usually hidden. For instance, the last big improvement (not criticism) -- the board software upgrade -- resulted in a lot of truncated posts. Unintended consequences can be a bitc*.
This stuff tends to be self correcting. If I see a sincere, reasonably thoughtful question that elicits grief from a search cop, that sometimes makes me more likely to give the guy a break with an answer. So the search cops can actually help out the questioners at times (ouch).

So, now that we have a few pages of suggestions, I'm curious if any of them are on the table or in the process of being implemented? It seems like there are good number of people here who genuinely want to make the site better.

Make it a rule in the classifieds to leave your opinions on the price or condition of a vehicle being offered to yourself unless asked for by the OP. There are threads where the OP asks for input, but if it not asked for , then members should stay out of it. The attacks on asking price or condition of a ride is getting a little over the top.
Below is just one example. I credit 85HJ75 for saying something. I'm sure he knows how it feels as he was getting beat up on his own sale thread by some idiot speaking out of place.

I agree with you for the most part on the price bashing. At the same time some of the people that try and sell stuff here have to be high to think they are going to get the price they're asking.
I've been looking for (1) 17" 5th Gen SR5 Rim (w/o tire) to complete my set for months. I paid $250 for my set of 4 with tires. I realize I got an unbelievable deal, but I have seen the same wheels with crappy worn out OEM Dunlops listed for $900 for the set + shipping. These people need a reality check.

Agreed, his asking price is light years beyond ridiculous. No turbo 4Runner is worth that much. You can even buy 93toy's truck for 8k.
Reminds me of the days when Gumballf355 tried to sell a 47k mi 3rd gen for $18,650.
Some people just need a swift kick in the ad
