How to prevent white buildup on battery bracket

I got my Optima battery from Summit http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=optima 34r&dds=1

It is a 34R. You have to get a R. That means reversed terminals. Toyota swaps the - and + for some reason and without the R model your cable will not reach. The 34r fits just fine.

I asked Toyota parts department what they sell for the 4runner battery.

They told me "East Penn" sealed battery. Canadian $152 plus 25 installation. Any thoughts?

of all the batteries ive had over the years, including optima, ive found the odyssey with metal jackets the best, they cost a bit more tho. & also will only get a deep cycle one since it can be discharged numerous times & still hold a charge will a regular one will be shot after a couple of times. ill be getting a 1700 when my currant one goes but these r two u might like. 25 bux to install is nuts, do it urself. Thanks for the info everyone. It's very helpful. Going to travel to the U.S. this week and will check out batteries along the way. Had no idea about the reversed terminals: That would have been quite irritating in the parking lot.
