How to reach the top of 4R?

Hello,

I just got around to washing the 4Runner for the first time. I had a heck of a time reaching the top of it. Standing on a white 5 gallon paint bucket helped a little but it was a big P.I.T.A.

Unless you're 8 feet tall you need some help reaching. Lets hear it, what do you do when you need to reach the top of your 4Runner.

Here's what mine looked like after the wash Notice the bird poop over the gas filler door? Just finished washing and drying and BAM BAM BAM some bird thought it'd be fun to nail it. Promptly wiped the bird poop off and used detailing spray to finish off.

As for reaching the top, I stand on running boards and rear wheel. My shirt is usually a little wet after that but I don't mind. You can get wash mitt with a long handle and then it should be easier to reach it.

BTW.. Where is your front licence plate??? You would get ticket for sure it you parked in Chicago. I paid twice for that!!!

Truck hasn't been registered yet. Still has the temporary operating permit while waiting for plates to get here. Already went out and bought a universal mounting bracket for the front plate so I don't have to drill ugly holes into the bumper cover.

On a side note, I've had my other car (Miata) here in California since 1999 without a front license plate. Haven't heard a complaint from anyone yet. I do keep the license plate in the trunk along with the front plate mounting kit just in case.

I bought a little step bench. It does double duty as I use it for sitting on while I detail the wheels.

Sidesteps to reach the front/middles part.. then the wheels for the back part.

Use Running boards. I can reach most of the roof just walking on side running boards.

The one I use

Got this at home depot for $35. Lightweight, aluminum, lockable legs, sturdy, inexpensive. You cant go wrong. Holds up to 250lbs I think. Legs fold up for storage. Stores in a small footprint. It is made by Gorilla and its found in the ladder section. Handy to have around the garage, house, and of course the runner. The only think I would add to this is some rubber guards around the edges, just in case.

I'm 6' and weight 175lb but manage to stand on the running broad to wash the top with no problem. also i get on the top of the back tire to wash the the rest of the back 1/2 where the running board stop while holding on to the roof rail. I have to said the more I see an 05 limited the more it look like a SR5 to me.Toyota should have made the top of the line 4R stand out a little bit instead of looking plain like an sr5.

I'm using one of these too. It's awesome when detailing the roof of the truck.

You could add some traction tape on top. It can get slick when wet. My driveway is too steep to wash on. My street is slight hill.

The running boards and rear tires do fine for me when I'm in a hurry. I have to hang onto the roof rack with one hand, wash/dry with the other.

I also use the gorilla. It is a must for waxing. Have to make sure when you pick it up with one hand, you don't swing towards the truck. Don't grab the edge between the Gorilla and truck.
